Custom options now available for the ZCD player!

Sales have been so strong with the Zen CD Player (You know, the one with the Single Ended Class A Triode output stage) that we are making some exciting custom options available! You can now add a removable power cord IEC jack, have it built for 120 OR 240 volts 50/60 cycles, add stepped attenuators for variable output and my personal favorite, have tube regulation installed in the power supply - talk about a sonic wonder… the regulator tube that we add filters the power and removes virtually all the pollution and harmonics that sneak into your player from your wall outlet. This mod actually performs better than many high dollar power conditioners. It gives you a smoothness and resolution usually only found in a hi-end battery operated source.

Part IV - Zen Open Baffle Project

Bloged in Acoustics, Design Notes, Speaker Projects by Steve Deckert Sunday October 26, 2008

With a room packed full of onlookers, I set up the microphones and was concerned about trying very hard NOT to set the gain too high so as to spare us all the horrible sound of low frequency feedback. So by that time I had music playing so I could blend in the broadcast speakers - and I remember thinking how odd it was that I was already hearing plenty of bass and hadn’t yet turned the broadcast on! Well no time to process that so I turned on the broadcast speakers with less gain than I recall from before putting me farther away from yellow zone of potential feedback or booming. That was a good thing, I could relax.

Live Broadcast / DECFEST 2008

Bloged in News, Videos by Steve Deckert Thursday October 2, 2008

http://win.2.c3.audiovideoweb.com/2c3winlive6749

We will be broadcasting parts of the fest starting Friday and ending sometime on Sunday from the link above.

This is an un-compressed 44 kHz stereo feed from a stereo microphone array hanging in the center of the room.  You will be able to clearly follow the conversation and listen to the various speakers and amplifiers.  With a good set of headphones, you’ll have no problem distinguishing the differences between components.

This feed is very high bandwidth (over 1 meg per minute) so only good broadband connections will work.  For those with lower bandwidth, we will archive the feed and make some DVD’s from it.

Please be sure you CLOSE your feed window (media player) or at least stop it when you’re not watching so bandwidth is not wasted.

It is our hope that those who could not attend this years event can vicariously experience it through this broadcast.  Enjoy!

Note:  If the feed doesn’t work when you try it, it just means there is no activity in the room and the broadcast has been stopped.  Try it again after some time.  Friday night, and Saturday night will likely be on all the time.  The rest of the time the feed will be on and off pending the level of activity in the room.
