A 10" DB and Time Alignment (incredible, Steve!)

After over a year of procrastinating, I finally built the 10 inch Deathbox. I used a single 10" Infinity Kappa dual voice coil (for 2 ohm load). It has decent excursion and efficiency. Well, the box was wonderful. It outperformed the two 10" bandpasses in my friend's Maxima trunk. (We set it in the same trunk and hooked his speaker wires up to it.) His eyes opened wide (with a look of disbelief). I also need to tell you that only one side of the DVC was hooked up (30% loss) and the baffle was not even screwed in place and sealed yet (unmeasured (50%?) loss). Absolutely unbelievable performance!
I have since sold the box and speaker to his friend, who knows little about sonic performance. (I sold it because I am a minimalist when it comes to boxes in my vehicle, and I will probably go with the smallest sealed enclosure I can make). He immediately said it wasn't enough. (He has visions of 15" speakers in the back of his VW Scirocco). I have visions of it sounding just like cupping both hands over your mouth and talking loudly. Muddy, distorted, and unacceptable.
Now, on to what happened to me yesterday. I bought some new JBL coaxials and installed them in the dash. They are the new GTO220s, which are 2-1/2 inchers with 1 inch titanium composite tweeters suspended above (no speaker post through the center). After playing around with them for a couple hours, I finally decided to hook all my speakers up with phase (time) alignment adjustments the Steve Deckert way. You don't know what you guys are missing! Holy cow! It was amazing! Even my wife who can hardly tell the difference between a boom box and a single speaker transistor radio said she really liked it better. She hates BASS, mostly due to a head injury she recieved while competing in the 1994 Barcelona Olympics, but she said it sounds really good now. Everything is clearer! The bass is louder (but my wife says it doesn't hurt her ears now) with way less distortion. I can turn it up to 80% volume with no recognizable distortion, where before I could go to maybe 70%. The background vocals, drums, sax, claps, synthesizer, just about everything just jumps out at you because you can hear it now. Even the small inflections from the singer (breathing and mouth noises) are clearly perceptible. I never could hear the rear speakers before unless I turned the fader to the rear. Now I can hear them ALL the time. No matter where my head is! The speaker is no longer the focal point of where the sound is coming from. This makes it much less harsh and much more bearable to listen to at a higher volume. And the higher you turn it up, it clearer it gets! One word of advice though, it sounds so good that you need to watch it with how high you turn it up. After listening to it for a couple hours with it loud and soft (mostly louder), when I got out of the vehicle, I could tell I had a slight hearing loss. It is very deceiving. But absolutely incredible! My thanks to Steve for rekindling my fire for music. I almost lost it. Thanks again.

How heavy does your wife smoke? Pack, two packs a day. I heard that "head injuries" are related to smoking tobbacco. And she was in the Olimpics? The Olympics really shouldn't allow that kind of thing, kids watch the stuff. You two should get your act together and quit "cold-turkey."

Glad you tried the diagram, but jazz music is not what I am used to. I like my original "Hindu Ethnic" albums. They draw more attention to the music rather than the vocals. focusing on vocals is for boy/girl Pop groups.

Shariyang, nobody can have respect for someone hiding behind his protective veil of a computer, making wise cracks, and putting other people down. You obviously have no respect for others through a lack of respect for yourself. You apparently realize that your lack of self respect is so strong that you need to demean others to make yourself feel like more of a man. Well, what you need is to be put in prison with Bubba, and have your veil of secrecy "penetrated" to reveal what you really are. You need professional help that I cannot supply to you. Go back where you came from and leave others alone. And be more respectable when addressing others, you never know who is watching you or what they will do.

I am sorry if I had offended you, that was clearly not my intent. when I had first arrived in this country many people put me down. But I have built a reputation on my designs and have become quite regarded as a major inventor in the audiophile world. I have the highest respect for myself and felt that you and your wife should "kick the habit" so you both would have more respect for yourselves. I know a "drug habit" can make people crazy and I am sorry that you needed to "lash" out on me. Perhaps when you quit your addiction we can be friends on some level. Additionally I am glad that people are watching me and am excited to see what they do. Look at my posts above. I am hoping to market some of these things on a grand scale, so heres hope that someone is watching!

Piss off Patel

Hey Mann - this forum is pretty much dead. Steve Deckert has banned most of the users who used to post useful things here. The re-located forum is located at audioforum.freeservers.com. Many users there are familiar with the Decware designs. Plus they have IP logging there and crap is not tolerated.
