I am still in the testing phase, but I am pretty inpressed with this Box. I have been a pro installer for over ten years, and this is the 1st "one size fits all" bandpass that really works. I usually laugh at most prefab bandpass boxes; they usually sound awful. a simple, inefficient sealed box will outperform most prefab bandpass boxes. The DB works and sounds as good as a bandpass that has been custom designed for a specific woofer. I actually want to put a 10W0 in the DB, but I didn't want to open up a new speaker, so I took a used 10W3 out of the back of the shop. From the approximate volumes of the sealed and ported chambers of the DB, I have a feeling that a single 10W0 will work extremely well. I test that combo at a later date. At any rate, I threw the box together (very tight fit) and I popped it in the trunk of another installer's car. I hooked up the DB to his JL audio 500/1 d-class sub amp. For initial testing, I set the adjsutable insert so that the port wall was aligned with the top edge of the half moon. I ran through several CDs, ranging from hip hop and bass to ZZ Top. When I opened up the trunk again, the adjustable insert had moved. (i hadn't put any screws to hold it in place) the insert had moved so that it had decreased the port area. So, I decided to listen to more music; I wanted to see how much the insert would move. This was sort of a simple to test to see if the box would try to equalize the pressures between the 2 chambers. After a bout a 1.2 an hour worth of testing, I checked on the DB again. the adjustable insert has made its way down so that the port opening was onlt about 1.5" - 1.75" wide. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but several of the DB users in these forums have their DBs adjusted to that same size port opening. The box sounds very good at this setting. I guess you could say that the DB ended up tuning itself. This weekend, I am going to do some more serious testing. I am going to inject pink noise to the system to see the response on the RTA. then I can see exactly what each adjustment is doing. sorry for the long post, but I am very impressed with the Death Box.
