I'm interested in making the Death Box II and plan to use one of your DHM 108b subs. What amp do you prefer to run this sub? Any other stereo ideas will also help. (speakers and such) I going to put it into my NEON. Thanks

I suggest you lube that sub up real good, turn that sumbitch sideways, and stick it straight up your candy ass! Don't use my subs, they suck. I usually cum all over my freshly produced subs when I'm taking it in the ass from large black men. See ya you silly little freak.

Uhhhhhhh huh steve. Okay...Well lets not look at that post too long. From what I hear the DHM108 is an okay sub but there is probably something nicer out there for the price. Either way amps are all dependant on personal preference. I used to run class A/B amps on my subs. They use gobs of power and sound pretty good. But I switched to class D because they have more punch and are way efficient! It really doesn't matter what type of amp you get, mainly because you won't be able to tell a sonic difference at sub frequency levels.

One other thing about the DHM108, its an 8ohm sub. Probably knew that already, but the claim is that it sounds better than a four ohm speaker. I don't know about this claim but usually any speaker that is 8ohms will sound good on any car stereo amp. This is because most amps are built for lower loads like 4ohms. Running an 8ohm speaker on a 4ohm amp makes the amp run cooler thus increasing transient response and all that good stuff. But thats with class A/B amps (which are most car amps). But class D is so efficient and punchy that you won't be able to tell the difference between 8 and 4 ohms since the amp will run cool either way. Only thing is the 8 ohm speaker will be quieter.

I would probably reccomend maybe 2 tens that are cheaper than the DHM108. Its not that Im bashing the sub but I think there are other subs out there that will do the job fine. Maybe look at some of the lower line fosgates. You could get two of them for the price of the DHM and they would sound just as good. Or look at some of the pioneer subs. Oddly enough, these are really good subs besides what you have probably heard. Properly powered they should sound real good.

As for amps I would look at pretty much anything that catches your eye. I personally have had better luck with mono-blocks (one channel amps). But a stereo amp bridged mono usually sounds pretty good. Actually, the kenwoods are pretty good for the beginner, either the 120 watt or 300 watt monoblocks. Then soundstream has the angina 200watt monoblock (actually this amps a steal!). Then you move up into class D like some of the MTX, Fosgate and MMATS amps. These usually cost a bit more but are worth it. Then there are the stereo amps. I have an orion cobalt 150.2 that can be bridged at 4ohms for about 300 watts. Thats pretty good for 130 dollar amp. And pheonix gold makes a pretty good product too. Come back with some ideas and we will try and help you sort out the advertising BS and get the truth so you don't make any big mistakes like most of us here.

For a neon and stereo ideas. Well, the nean has these weird doors that make most aftermarket speakers sound bad. But I bet some infinities or polk audio speaks would sound real good. Also, if it is one of those neons with componet speakers (speakers in the doors as well as the dash) you may want to disconnect the tweeters in the dash and run coax in the doors. This is usually cheaper and in the neons case sounds better for some reason. If you only run one sub, you may want to remove the rear 6x9's and let the sub vent through. This will give you a little extra bottom to work with. If you like the rear fill maybe replace the 6x9's with a plate that has a hole on one side and the other side contains like a 3.5". this should sound good if you need rear fill. But the neon is small enough wheras if you do the fronts right then the whole car should be filled with sound. End of story. Hope that gets you thinking a bit. Keep us updated.

Yeah Doc as we know MMATS amps sound beautiful into even 1/2 ohm mono loads. But of course everybody had to copy mmats and infinity... like Earthquake and Memphis and Crossfire. Sounds like a familiar scheme.
