I was poking through the attic in my grandma's garage and stumbled upon a couple interesting pieces. One is a Challenger Tube PA amplifier (I think the model number is CC-60, not sure though) I also found the microphone and the loudspeaker to go with it. So after checking the inside for mice or spiders...I plugged it in. To my surprise it powered right up and the tubes glowed but no output? The microphone or bullhorn might be shot, because I hooked it up to a stereo speaker and it hummed a bit (I didn't have any input at the time). If anyone can give me some suggestions (any info on the piece would be great too!) here I would be glad to take them...I'd hate to see a relic like that go to waste. Oh yeah the power specs on the transformer say 130 watts 117VAC, so does that mean the output is also 130W? It might be a stupid question but I have zero experience with tube amps. The second piece I uncovered is a really old shortwave radio/police scanner/transistor radio. I could not find a manufacturer name but it does have a solid wood case and has a tube amplifier and speaker built in as well. Some of the wire insulation has melted due to heat but that's not hard to fix. I didn't bother testing it for safety reasons... Thanks! |
