Posted At 19:05:26 05/16/2001 Neal, After reading almost everything on this site(some things over and over and..) I have to say that a driver(subwoofer or otherwise) is only as good as the enclosure your using it in. My suggestion is to build or buy an enclosure that will work with your driver at what ever frequency you are going to be using it at. Since you have a subwoofer, I'd assume your looking for bass. Try one of Steves D.I.Y Enclosures like the Death Box. If you want more info, Just read this site a few times. Jay |

Posted At 04:34:32 05/17/2001 To create a speaker enclosure you need thiele/small parameters. This is Qes, Qms, Fs, Vas, Mms at least. I searshed the web for the parameters, but Kenwood don't give them. Usualy car sub woofers have parameters adjusted to work fine with very very large enclosures (usualy more than 250 liters !). Of course you cant create a box without parameters, but the result is unpredictable (you will have some a 'cheap disco' sound). |

Posted At 11:18:48 05/29/2001 If that sub in your cab extends low frequency response below what your other speakers are capable of, and you like the way it sounds, then it is a great sub. OK. I am trying to lead you into a lot of question to ask yourself. How low do the existing speakers go? How low and what volume do you want to add? I would offer one caution. I continually read about very low and very flat responses. I buy some of the best drivers available and build the best cabs I can make. Do not fall into this trap. If all this DIY does get you 10HZ to 100HZ in practical size boxes, theaters would not still be building large horns. You will be amazed what -2b drop to 40Hz sounds like. And if you existing speakers are droping fast at 100HZ, you will get a real kick when you hear flat response to 50 HZ. There is little music below 50HZ. Organ music and theater sound effects mostly. Good Luck. |
