Title: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by Andy831 on 02/23/07 at 08:49:05 4 lots of these up for grabs guys on Ebay.co.uk Might be worth a look for anyone fancying a try at a different tube. I use one in my Select and prefer it to the 5U4 THE AUCTION IS NOTHING TO DO WITH ME, other than bringing it to your attention. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=300082054430&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=020 Have a look at sellers other items, he has 4 sepertae lots. Regards Andy Ps only a few hours to go, I expected them to go for a bit more than this. |
Title: Re: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by veryoldcat on 02/23/07 at 17:35:57 On occasion I revisit a bunch of different rectifiers I have used in the Select just to see if I'm being a snob about the Mullard gz32, but can find nothing to compare to this one. The closest candidates are a couple nos RCA coke bottle 5v4's which are superb; but these still can't compare to the fluidity of the Mullard. The 5u4's aren't bad but are quite a bit more hard sounding in my particular system. The bass region is thumpier with the 5u4's, however. Karl |
Title: Re: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by KeithC on 02/23/07 at 19:34:28 I win - and I swore I'd never do the NOS thing. Don't even know what It'll do to a Taboo, but hey for £37....... And they're pretty. |
Title: Re: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by Andy831 on 02/23/07 at 21:10:02 Nice one Keith You can try one of mine in your Taboo tomorrow LOL I now have 2 X 5U4, a Mullard GZ32, 2 X ultron GZ32`s and a single 274B Got to agree with veryoldcat the Mullard is the pick of the bunch |
Title: Re: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by KeithC on 02/28/07 at 14:04:41 They look good (some corrosion on pins), sound good, give a nice slow start - I'm sold on the GZ32 thing. So what's the downside? |
Title: Re: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by lightmaster on 02/28/07 at 14:56:53 mullard gz32 are really good i have collected 5 NOS in unopened boxes :-) one rectifier that nobody talks about here is the brimar 5R4GY it goes under a range of different brands including stc, ultron, etc , kicks the butt out of RCA 5R4GY IMHO here is a link so that you can have a clue, important factor is exposed wires inside at the top of the rectifier, the closed one is good but not as good http://www.audio.idv.tw/images/tube/5/5r4gy_stc_1960s_1_l.jpg not as fluid as the OLD mullard gz32, but better then the new mullard gz32, very very musical crystal clear sound with incredible sounstage (shocking when compared to RCA's). i just can't decide between the old gz32 and the STC 5R4GY. questions questions :-) f |
Title: Re: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by 144cubits on 02/28/07 at 16:25:55 Light: Would the STC 5R4GY be compatible with my Taboo and if so would you recommend a place to pick one up. Thanx Fred |
Title: Re: Mullard GZ32 Rectifier Tubes.. for sale Post by Andy831 on 02/28/07 at 20:51:03 Keith Not sure there is a downside, other than with them being used, they MAY NOT last as long? also maybe they do not quite test up to new standard....... but hey if you prefer them to the stock valve, how bad can they be? Andy |
