Title: SE84CDIY vs the assembled version
Post by Ray750 on 02/12/09 at 13:31:22

Hello,
Is there much difference in sound quality between the kit and the assembled version of the SE84c ? My question assumes that the kit is assembled and soldered correctly. I notice the kit has one less tube. Thank you in advance for comments!

Dude,

The factory wired version is vacuum rectified and point to point wired.  The kit version is built by "stuffing" a PCB and it's SS rectified.

I agree with Steve Deckert's PCB decision for the kit version, as it eliminates warranty calls caused by poor builder technique.  As for vacuum vs. SS rectification, if done well, both styles get the job done nicely.
