Title: Fire sale in Caintuck
Post by Randy in Caintuck on 07/09/14 at 17:43:43

It's time to clean house .....

After countless experiments with dozens of different drivers and hundreds of hours of testing / listening, I have pretty much settled on the loudspeaker configuration that will be my everyday (if not permanent) setup.

So, I am selling off a few things that I won't be using in the near future.
A couple of these are duplicates of things I have in the stash ..... the others are perfectly fine sounding and working drivers that will make someone very happy but are just taking up space in my listening room. For me, the money will be better used to purchase more music.

I'm offering them here before they go to AudioGon or eBay in the next couple of weeks.

If there is any interest, please send PM.
Please, PayPal and continental US buyers only.
Buyer pays shipping charges. I will cover the PayPal fee.

Here we go .....

Saba 8" Alnico Green Cone driver (pair)
I have another pair of these fine drivers, but don't need two pair.
Shipping from Europe was not cheap, hence the asking price of 150.00

Larger photo here.

Audio Nirvana Classic 10" full range (pair)
No whizzer cone, no phase plug. Can be used OB or in a box - very low hours of use.
Retail 278.00 a pair - asking 175.00
Original shipping boxes.

Larger photo here.

Audio Nirvana Super 12" Ferrite magnet cast frame full range (pair)
Can be used OB or in a box - very low hours of use.
Retail 298.00 a pair - asking 195.00
Original shipping boxes.

Larger photo here.

Thanks for looking,

Randy

I just did the same thing, about a year back.

I ditched everything that I had already used, experimented with, etc., except for my vintage JBL drivers.
I can not part with those.

Sorry. I can not use any, myself.
Good luck!!

Hi Randy, so are you sticking to your Parker Audio Troll Magnus or one of your open baffle designs then?

Hi DirtDawg,

Yep ..... several of the different drivers I have tried sound quite good, but I ended up using the Wild Burro Betsy 8" drivers paired with some Heil AMT drivers for the highest frequencies. Low notes are covered by Hawthorne Audio 15" Augie drivers powered by plate amps.
System matching and synergy have a lot to do with good sound ..... and this combo works out very well in my room with the associated equipment in my system.

It's hard to believe that a pair of inexpensive drivers can sound so good ..... but they do.

If it sounds good, it is good .....

Best wishes,

Randy

Hi beowulf,

Both .....

I can never see parting with the Parker Audio Trolls.  They are excellent speakers and are a "one off" custom design that Dave built for me. I have a pair of stands with 70 pounds of lead shot in each that work very well with them.  Since they don't take up a lot of real estate, the decision to keep them and use them on a regular basis was not a tough one.

Of course, the open baffle thing has a bit of the "proud papa" syndrome involved.  Even if they didn't sound all that good, I would have to like them ..... but they do sound good.

I have had some fun "butchering plywood" and have gotten better at it as time went on.  They latest project turned out pretty well.

The Hawthorne Augie 15" is my bass driver of choice, but I have been playing around with some Eminence Alpha drivers and they don't sound too shabby.  The Qts is very good for OB.

Best wishes,

Randy

The Audio Nirvana 10" drivers are no longer for sale.
I found a project for them.
The 12' AN drivers and the Saba Green Cones are still available and will go to AudioGon or eBay next week.

Thanks,

Randy

The only thing still for sale is the AN 12" drivers.

Thanks,

Another update .....

The shipping charges for the Saba drivers to Australia were more than the prospective buyer could bear, so he decided to pass on them.

They are once again available.

The other drivers are no longer for sale.

Thanks,

Randy
