Title: GZ34 metal base fans? Post by piezoman on 03/23/20 at 00:19:29 Just purchased a Philips Miniwatt 1955 metal base today. Going to store it away until after I take delivery on a Taboo MK IV and let the tube complement that Steve provides burn in for a few months. To those who have a Mullard/Philips/Amperex GZ34 metal base rectifier in their amp, please share your thoughts. Much appreciated! Brad |

Title: Re: GZ34 metal base fans? Post by Lon on 05/05/20 at 11:03:24 They're expensive--for me prohibitively so! Additionally I haven't been impressed with lesser GZ34 that I have used and so haven't ventured into the more esoteric types of this tube. |
Title: Re: GZ34 metal base fans? Post by piezoman on 09/14/20 at 22:19:57 I purchased 2, both 1955 with welded plates (more stability than crimped plates which was 1957 onward).......honestly I wasn't overly impressed. A little too much at times. I like the Mullard fat base much more. Have 3 of them (no notches, all smooth plates). I just sold the 2 metal base at a tidy $300 profit. There's a notable fan base out there, but I found the price tag at which I bought them for ($285 each) wasn't worth it in my Taboo. And they're priced at a point right now it far past ridiculous ($400 bare minimum).....the market will eventually react to that and the prices will necessarily go back lower. |
