Title: 6N2P-EV Input Tube
Post by MikeinMontana on 06/24/24 at 17:40:04

A seller accidentally sent me one of these and apparently does not want it back. Is this even applicable to use in a Zen UFO? Thanks! [smiley=icqlite20.png]

6N2P is like a 12AX7/ECC83, so not a good match for a UFO. But if you have (or might get) a phono stage that uses those tubes it would work there.

Hey Mike,

I don't know about the UFO, but when I needed a little more clarity and push in my 1st Decware amp, an earlier SE34 (now Rachel), Steve recommended trying 6N2Ps in the 6922/6DJ8/6N1P position along with KT77s for power. I used both for quite a while preferring the bigger open and dynamic sound they gave together.

Not that this will work with your amp, but often Decware is quite flexible tube wise... so if really interesting in trying them, might be worth a search on the forum and/or an email to Steve.

I appreciate that will! Something to look into then down the road. I have a 6n5p installed as a test drive right now. Another awesome sounding input tube! All the best to you and yours..  [smiley=icqlite20.png]  Mike

Yes I have tried a few of those 6N5Ps and those I have reveal an interesting blend of rich textures in space from a "real" "warmth"... weighing a little darkish without much sacrifice to detail and space. Nice! Tubes are a lot of fun. :)

So can I put in a 6N2P-EV tube into my SE84UFO without it blowing up?
I am curious to how it would change the sound.
Thanks!

Yes. Let us know what you think.

I have been advised to not use one of those in the UFO. May not 'blow-up' but it is high gain etc so have no idea how this one would sound. I did go ahead and send the one I had back to the original seller anyway. Never tried it. I have used a 6n23p, 6n6p, 6n5p and the original 6n1p-EV. All work perfectly. All were NOS. I will eventually get a 6922, but not right now. Not sure which one is good without another mortgage. :)  Some are ridiculous priced.  Have a Happy Independence Day  [smiley=icqlite20.png]

Currently using a 1953 NOS RCA 5u4g Rectifier, original 6p15p-EV red tipped outputs, NOS 6n23P input. This particular 6n23p seems to have more gain..even though I do not need more gain through our speakers. A very NICE sounding tube too.
