I woke up today with less than 10 fingers, hopefully I will go to bed tonight only missing the one that was already gone.

Yikes Donnie! My dad had 8 1/2 fingers due to a blasting cap in Vietnam. Knowing you work with wood I’m afraid to ask, I’ve had two very close calls with a router.

Sean,

No it wasn't a woodworking accident, it was a machine shop accident.

I was a Toolmaker for a large part of my career. I hate to say it but I know a lot of folks without all of their fingers.

I lost 1/3 of my middle finger of my left hand on August 19th, 1998 at 9:40 AM in a 10 ton press that I was adjusting.

I was in a big hurry, I had a lot of things going on and the operator just needed a small adjustment. Kapow and it was all over in less than a second.

So the lesson to everyone is to be very cognitive of hand placement at all times.

Before I retired I was asked to give a safety discussion to everyone in my division at Caterpillar.
So for 20 minutes I talked about how it sucks to lose digits to about 4000 people.

So my lesson to everyone is watch your hands and please don't hurt yourself, it sucks.

Donnie, that’s terrifying! One last finger story, I was about 10 years old and my dad told me to clean the windows on the garage door. This was before lightweight doors and openers. Cleaned the inside and was lowering the door from the outside. I was heavy and stubborn, I grabbed it in between panels with my finger tips…and pulled with all my weight. Now that they are  in there and the weight is killing me, I couldn’t lift it up except with one foot. I never stuck my fingers where they don’t belong around any door since. Alright, no more horror, everyone enjoy the long weekend!
