hey, I have a newish custom unit that's not playing. I want to switch out the 5u3 rectifier tube to see if it's bad. I have a zen preamp that uses the 5u4, so thought of trying that. good idea? thanks

Yes, the 5U4 is the "standard" rectifier for all the UFO type amps. (You said 5u3 but I assume you mean 5U4).

hmmm, it came with a 5u3 when I bought it. but I will switch out. thanks!

The Russian version of the 5U4 can look like 5U3, that is probably what you have.
