Title: New SE84UFO2 - what to do with my old SE84B?
Post by GSinIL on 11/24/24 at 01:12:59

Got it in 2000 (assembled, serial# 298).
Don’t need the money but I don’t see me using it again soon either.
Smartest thing to do would probably be to sell it but there is a little attachment after 25 years and before I “give it away” I might just keep it.
Any idea what it might be worth? Nothing in the classifieds lately for some comparison.

Thanks
GS

You could use it to run a dedicated summed mono center channel. I hear it does amazing things for delocalizing (or broadening) of the sweet spot... so to speak. I have not had a chance to try it... yet.

Value vs Worth... the age old question. It would be hard to venture a guess... the only person I know who is intimately familiar with the builds from over the years would be Steve. I Know that they typically sound better with age so I bet your unit SO sweeet! There are also some parts used in that time period that are no longer available... That thing is about to be a quarter century old! lOl If you sent it in for a check up from the doctor you may be able to glean a little more info on your particular unit from the feedback. I am sure there would be a bench fee, but a clean bill of health is always nice, and since you have an amp to use in the mean time,  you would not even miss it.  ... many roads to choose from!

Good luck!

If you use headphones you could use it as a headphone amp with a resistor harness etc. I used a SE84B amp as a headphone amp using the Vinyl Flat "Can Opener" and it was an amazing headphone amp. I ended up replacing it with a PS Audio GCHA headphone amp because the headphones I was using are really power-hungry and that amp drives them perfectly.
