Title: ZKIT US to Schucko - fuse protection question
Post by goso64 on 12/10/24 at 10:55:35

Hello,

I recently moved from the US to Portugal, which uses totally symmetric Schuko plugs and sockets. I upgraded my ZKIT1 to the proper Edcor 240v transformer. However, my design has a fuse on the hot side assuming US wiring. In Portugal, there is no polarity - plugs and sockets are symmetrical. I don't know of a way to figure out the hot vs neutral pin so I'm hesitant to test the amp with the upgraded transformer.

Is there a way for me to measure the socket and tell which pin is hot?

I have a protection light bulb circuit that I used to use in the US but it assumes the right prong is hot as per US wiring rules. So I can't even use it to verify that my upgraded is safe and wired properly.

Any suggestions on how to ensure safety on this amp in my new environment?

Thanks for your comments in advance.

I guess I could use a double-throw switch but I was trying to avoid making mods to the box.  Still would like to hear any ideas/comments.

thanks

If you have a multimeter just see which leg shorts to ground, assuming you have grounded boxes or something that is grounded.
