Title: Lii Audio F-12
Post by Geno on 12/17/24 at 17:48:04

I fairly recently, purchased a used pair of Lii Audio F-12's, from here on the classifieds. Randy chimed in with a comment about the sale, saying how much he liked them - that was all I needed to try them - and the price was so low, I could not pass it up.

I made my open baffles, with the top and bottom separate, so that I could easily swap out the full-rangers on top.

Ever since Steve scaled up Randy's baffles, and used the F-15 years ago, I wanted to try them. But instead, at the time, I got the new addition Crystal 10's, and went from there. But in the back of my mind, I never stopped thinking about Steve's description of the "old school" HIT of the F-15.

I got the 12's instead, because the 15's are just a bit too large for my setup.

I have three different full-rangers now - Wild Burro Audio 8" Alnico, Lii Audio Platinum 10, and the newly added Lii F-12.

All three of these have their own distinct wonderful sound - and all very different from one another.

The big surprise though, is how much I love the F-12. They are just so versatile, and seem to sound great, no matter what I play. I think that I can hear some of the "HIT", that Steve described, but still with the finesse to sound smooth.

Like I said above, my baffles are designed to swap out full-rangers, but these will stay in for a while. I am getting so much pleasure every time I listen to them.

This clip is using the audio from one of Dr. Pongs latest UltraAnalogue live recordings he posted on YouTube:

That sounds great, and looks great too Geno. Well done.

I will second CAJames’ motion. Looks great and sounds great.

Is that a tweeter in the space between the panels?

I had similar intentions when I built my baffles- that I could switch out panels with different speakers. I have to admit that I’ve never made that happen. I first heard the f-15’s going on four years ago now and have been in love with them ever since. They still astound me daily.

Watching your link I have to wonder, how does the sound carry into the kitchen? When I’m not in my listening chair I’m most likely in the kitchen listening while cooking. I imagine the sound coming off the backs and into the kitchen probably provides a great soundtrack to culinary excursions?

Thanks guys. It is so much fun to be involved in this hobby these days - and the last 7 years, since discovering Decware, and the fine folks involved in this forum.

Gilf, you are right about the sound from the back of the baffles. Sounds great in the kitchen, as well as the rest of the house.

Man-o-man looks like a page from my book! I heard and would love to have F-15s in my space. Steve's laid back approach really got me thinking that there still may be hope that it can happen for me.

Nice sound and work Geno.
