Title: Dream system design around Klipsch La Scala AL6 Post by aroach337 on 01/12/25 at 22:03:14 I am building my dream system and I JUST got on the waiting list for a pair of ZMA amps. I have been reading about the upcoming La Scala AL6's which will require tri-amping. That seems crazy, but if I were to go that way, I need two more channels of amplification. It seems best to get a low power single-ended amp for the highs and use the two ZMAs for the mids and bass. Or would the more powerful TORII MONOS set the foundation with the ZMAs doing the rest? 40W would be insane for a horn tweeter, so that seems like a waste. What Decware would make the most sense? My room is an odd shape - essentially a 14x20 listening area but partially open to another 14x20 space back right. This is all about acoustic jazz and unlikely to ever need be louder than 80db. |
Title: Re: Dream system design around Klipsch La Scala AL6 Post by Steve Deckert on 01/13/25 at 16:31:40 In a passive crossover, the signal is the same power reaching all three drivers. Sometimes the drivers are the same efficiency but sometimes they are not and the crossover attempts to equal them out. Technically, you are right, a 2 watt Zen amp would and historically does sound killer good on compression drivers and is almost always loud enough. That would indicate that a 2 watt amp on the mids and another 2 watt amp on the bass driver would be fine. The overall SPL of the speaker will be limited by the lowest power amp of the three. |
