Lon, my internet has been in and out since yesterday so may not be posting this morning but I wanted to tell you some of the tubes I've liked in the ZP3. I initially had the Raytheon black plate 12AX7s and rolled multiple 12AU7s...I seem to have settled on the RCA triple Mica Black plate 5814...it's been there without rolling for at least 6 months.
Then I rolled the 12AX7 position, usually with pairs of the same tube type although I know this is not necessary. I really enjoy the 5751 type...all triple micas except for some Tung Sols that I found to be wonderful. The Sylvania Black Plate triple micas are in place currently but others I like are the sylvania triple mica gray plates, RCA triple Mica black plates and even the GE triple micas were very good particularly the black plates.
Of the 12AX7s I tried... the Mullards just didn't wow me...they were a bit muddy and dull compared to others. As usual, the Amperex brand was a favorite...the white label 12AX7s were great. I've tried many other tubes in the ZP3 but have given you some of the best to try. But I should note that I really haven't tried any tube that didn't do at least an acceptable job in the ZP3. Have fun rolling.
Oh, and I'm listening to this CD...Mark.
