Core,  those aren't the one's I found...I found a few different versions/artists on both Spotify and youtube...some other time when I hook my laptop to the Zen Monoblocks, I'll give the 33 variations a whirl...

Now I'm playing CD #2 of Monk at the It Club.  In less than an hour I'm going to watch the original "Ocean's Eleven" on TCM. Mark.

Yes Core, I agree but he has been a serious singer for many years.  I have run across him when watching you tube videos of various programs.  I put in his name with the word singing and got this list if you're interested.  Mark.

Mark,
Saw him on TV last night and it was mentioned he was up for a Grammy in jazz I believe. Piqued my interest and his stuff is on Tidal. Very nice.

Now this oldie:

Last Sunday I saw a production of the play "33 Variations" based on Beethoven's 33 Variations on a waltz by Anton Diabelli, Op. 120.  The pianist that played parts of the work during the play has sparked my interest in the whole work.  I'll seek it out on Spotify or youtube.  Mark.

This is the performance of Diabelli variations that I really know well and like. . . .Richter is hard to top.

Thanks Lon,  Spotify doesn't seem to have that album.  I did find a you tube recording of a performance in Prague 1986 of Richter performing the Variations...not sure it's the same as your album.

Listening to this in the Cave...a relatively recent ebay Vinyl purchase...

That performance was part of the same "tour" so to speak, he performed in Prague in May of '86 and almost exactly a month later in Amsterdam where the Phillips LP was recorded (and broadcast over the radio). Should be a near identically excellent performance. Wink

Before I went to bed last night, I hooked up my laptop to the Monoblocks and listened to Richter play Beethoven's Diabelli Variations.  I also listened to half of the most recent Seth MacFarlane album.  It can't be denied he has a beautiful voice but there is something missing.  With Sinatra everything seemed relaxed and effortless...with MacFarlane, he seems to be working too hard...the effortless quality isn't there.  I will listen to more of his recordings.

Starting the morning with this Steely Dan album that I've not heard before via Spotify, Laptop, Zen Monos and Souls....

Next, I decided to listen to one of Sinatra's Ballad, slow tempo albums.  I prefer his up and mid tempo stuff during the Capitol years but I wanted to compare Seth MacFarlane to "Ol' Blue Eyes"...

Playing this 1974 album...Cedar Walton on electric piano...prefer acoustic...but this is as good as or better than a lot of the CTI albums from this era...

That Gateway is a very "real" sounding recording Mark, to my ears. The second one is also very nice.

This will be the last for a while...going to a production of the Musical "The New Moon" with a full 30+ piece orchestra this afternoon. Friday evening I saw a Pops concert of Gershwin music played by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as well as an A Capella Choir and two guest soloists who sang the parts of Porgy and Bess.  Rhapsody in Blue wasn't played....so guess what's next Smiley

Lon, I made it through about 25 minutes of Gateway.  I'll listen to the rest as well as the other LP by the group later.  To my ears it is more like rock, maybe a little Metheny-ish in parts.  Dave Holland and Jack Dejohnette  are why I tried it...I have loved their work in so many different groups.

Lon, have you seen the Popmarket offerings for today?  I have the two RCA boxes and the Gould, of course, what do you think of the others?  Mark.

I have the Bernstein and have been working my way through it. I like it a lot, I've had the Symphony edition that preceded it and my Dad and I have really enjoyed going through that together, and I went through it alone before that.

I've the Horowitz box before this one, and I think I'm good on Horowitz.

Perlman. . . I have yet to be "bitten" by the Perlman bug. Maybe one day. But I don't feel compelled to get his Warner recordings at this time.

I'm listening to this version of SHOSTAKOVICH Symphony No. 7  (Leningrad).  Early next month the Dallas Symphony Orchestra is performing the Leningrad and Mozart's piano concerto #24 in one program....It isn't included in my series...I'm thinking of buying tickets.  I've heard both performed Live and they are exceptional.  Mark.

Strawbs were cool. An interesting band that kept evolving as the industry and genres evolved.

I stopped listening to rock and prog in the early 'eighties and continued getting deeper into my fascination with jazz and blues and funk and Brazilian music. Other than going back to some of the biggest bands in the collection of my youth, and buying some upgraded versions, I'm not listening to that music any longer and still exploring jazz and now also classical.

Right now

Right now this one again, a mono copy. I have the Mosaic set of all the Roulette material, on cd. But I think I'll try to get all the LPs. . . they sound awesome.

Teagarden just really was a great performing artist.

Can still remember when this LP came out and how exciting that was.

From the "Five Years" CD box set. Very good remastering on these discs. The monster bass (the signature sound of this album) sounds so so good coming out of the system!

Fishbone - The Reality Of My Surroundings...
From Wiki: "the first Fishbone album to include former Miles Davis music director John Bigham (guitar, keyboards), who joined in 1989 during the Truth and Soul tour."
