That you are NOT hearing any difference does not surprise me at all.
Unless the transformers being tinkered with are seriously under shielded, any external magnet should make little impact on the internal magnetic field and thus the currents within the coils.
And even if it did I would suspect it to be highly un-tunable, or 100% trial and error with a very large number of permutations even amp-to-amp of the same model.
But I am always highly skeptical of tweaks any way so I am probably full of it! lol

Well, I definitely hear the difference with magnets. I removed the magnets from the ZP3, I find mine at least sounds better without them. I do have two each on each of the large transformers on the Torii, and two each on the CSP2+ transformer. I have ended up with them lower than Will had outlined, all of them are about 1" from the bottom of the transformer sides. I've also added magnets to the six screws on the aluminum top left and right side of the amp, and the four screws that are on either side of the OC2 tubes.

It's not a huge difference, it's subtle, but I hear it and consider it an improvement, a refinement. My guess is just a tiny bit more of the noise floor cleaned up.

Now on to an LP for the Friday Feeling. . . .

Well, my friend Nigel stopped by this afternoon and we spun a bunch of albums. Still no joy with the magnets. Nigel thinks that any change is subtle if hardly any noticable. I dont think my system is as highly tuned as Lons or Wills so they would hear subtle changes more easily and then be able to hone in.
I`ll continue to place the magnets here and there and maybe I`ll find somewhere that makes more of a difference.

Interesting. Well I do think that my power regeneration and my further isolation/power filtering with the PowerBases does really lower the noise floor and subtle changes in tubes, cabling, and yes, magnets seem audible. No harm or foul if you can't hear the changes, they aren't essential or really prominent.

Right now, trying out some tubes in the CSP2+ I found in a box in my closet, hardly used, Valvo E288CC. . . a lot like 7308s, taller. . . .Sound good as both driver and input tubes (I have three). Listening to something I know very well. . . .

I`ve had the Philips 5R4GY back in the CSP2+ for a good 3 mnths now. It`s played in v/well. More voluminous, slightly, and a pleasing signature as compared to the RCA`s I grew to like. Miles Davis`Live-Evil` 7308`s. Another newie that I`ll have to consider.

"Live/Evil" is a double lp that I've had since it was first released forty-five years ago or so! I used to play that over and over and my friends used to think I was nuts; they played Pink Floyd and other such stuff that was okay, but Miles and Keith Jarrett and John McLaughlin and Jack de Johnette and Michael Henderson and Gary Bartz and Airto and Hermeto Pascoal were the SH*T and set me on a path of jazz and funk that I have never quite recovered from.

Re Miles Lon. I`ve just placed an order for the 4cd box set of the Fillmore gigs ...all four days in entirety. Great reviews.
Yes the Live-Evil (only played disc one so far) very raunchy Mcloughlin. As per usual with this electric Miles ensemble work it going to take me a few listens to appreciate to a level where I can get over the surprises and.......oh jeez I can see a log jam ahead. :)

You'll dig that Fillmore box. I rejoiced when it came out. I had lived with the two LP "Miles Davis At Fillmore" since '73 or so and finally all of it was released. The LP set had each of the four nights edited down to one LP side. This box set has the whole of each of the four evening's performances. In great sound. (I bought the Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 version).
