Just received an e-mail that a parcel of records has been despatched from an order I placed 12 momths ago. I gave up on them a while ago. I can remember two of them...L D Surrender on MFSL and a Miles Davis live album on the same.
So much for pre-orders.
The episode bugged me and I got them to send me Undercurrent and another Jim Hall album from the order 6mnths ago.

It's hard on the fingers because it has a 30" scale and it's neither guitar nor bass fingering width on the frets, and you have to use the 30" strings available, I've always just used the Fender strings for this:

.095 .075 .055 .045 .035 .025 inches, Fender stainless steel

If I play it enough of course then I callous at the right places and my hands get stronger (though I am beginning to be arthritic in the left hand, ouch.)

I also have a Japanese Jaguar baritone guitar which is yet a different scale and a very cool guitar. . . different sounds, even has a built in distortion circuit. I have it in the same sunburst finish, I love that sunburst (I also have two Jazz basses in that finish, one fretted, one fretless, and a Custom Shop Classic Stratocaster in that same finish).

I love Fenders . . . and I like these offset smaller basses, they're different, they have a thick dark sound for guitar use, very jazzy.

It's a very cool model. . . . Was used a lot in the sixties by Nashville bands to "double the acoustic bass line". . . often called "tic-tac" bass. Originally Danelectro pioneered this type of bass and Fender followed suit. Lots of uses for it outside "tic-tac" though. They fell into obscurity and weren't produced for years, then they were only available for a while in expensive Custom Shop versions, and now there are a few Fender options available (a "Pawn Shop" US model and a Japanese Fender model). Schecter also makes a few models, including a Robert Smith (the Cure) signature model that is very nice, and a more basic "Hellcat" model or two.

I like it because I can get a big box jazz guitar tone out of mine . . . and I don't have a big box jazz guitar. Maybe one day. I can do the same with my '59 Thinskin Reissue Jazzmaster with more work on the amp end, and with the Jaguar Baritone guitar (probably the most big box jazz sounding). And on either the VI or the Jaguar the top four strings can play bass lines as thick and juicy as a Precision.

Interesting Dylan album of "outtakes" from Columbia when Dylan moved to another label briefly.

Right now, getting ready for the Miles Davis "E.S.P." Mobile Fidelity Labs SACD that should arrive on Tuesday by comparing two Sony CD versions I have (both DSD masters, one by a Japanese engineer in 2000, and one by Mark Wilder in 2006 reissued on Blu-Spec CD2 in 2013. . . I can get a bit geeky with Miles releases as I've been collecting them since '72.)

Hey Core, I'm listening to this one too. Luckily Japan did a repress of this and Time out of Mind on Blu-Spec CD2, these were the last two I needed to get and they sold out of the first pressing before I got "hip" to how wonderful they sound. So now that I have these two in hand I really don't need my "Complete Columbia Album Collection" box set as I have all the material in there in either Blu-Spec CD2 or SACD and will listen to those over the discs in the set. I just spent a LOT of time going through my collection and found over a hundred duplicate discs I can sell. Whew!

Or it may just be the song selection on there seems a bit disjointed. Columbia just issued it to get more $$ from their Dylan catalog, right? Now....

Yes, it was leftovers from the "Self-Portrait" sessions that were the last before Dylan left Columbia for a while. I bought the LP when it came out in '74 or so and over time I learned to really like the songs and these versions of them but at first it was like WTF. I don't stream so I don't know what version is on Tidal. There was an early CD release that never sounded that great. Then when Columbia/Sony put out "The Complete Columbia Album Collection" in late 2014 they remastered 13 albums for cd in that collection, including this one. Sounds pretty decent, and the Blu-Spec CD2 version sounds even better.
