I got in two boxes of CTI Supreme Series cds from CDJapan yesterday and opened them up this morning. I really like these cds, less than ten dollars each in Japan, pressed with the Blu-Spec CD process, and purportedly “flat transfers.” These are all from the second batch, 16 in all in these two boxes, I have another in shipment should arrive soon with 7 more discs in the series. (Think there were 30 released).
Listening to this one, which I haven’t heard for a while and think I only have in the earliest CTI cd release from Columbia/Sony US. Sounds very nice! (Forced to do headphone listening as Lucy sleeps in).

Spotify has it so I'll listen via the Monoblocks and Soul speakers. I have quite a few of those CTIs on vinyl somewhere. Some of them seemed a bit over produced and you know how I feel about electric keyboards and jazz. Mark.

Yes I do know how you feel. I came in to jazz from Miles' earliest "fusion" works like Filles de Kilamanjaro and In A Silent Way, so they were part of jazz for me at the start.

These Blu-Spec CDs sound really good, there's a lot of "layering" to the sound so that I enjoy the larger orchestrations and productions more than if they were just a big thick slab with little differentiation as some masterings offer them. These better masterings and the great systems we have have helped me to appreciate CTI more as the years go by.

Now this one again. Listening to this on speakers is different than doing so on headphones. Possibly the ZBIT difference (listening to a different source for speakers and headphones).

I'll be glad to hear the sound of a ZBIT that doesn't have the attenuator issue that mine has, as just turning the knob two clicks down from full up makes for a different sonic presentation. I can't go much below that without encountering one channel silent or diminished in volume.

Some nice playing on this, but lots of electric piano too if that's a concern for anyone. These CTI releases in this series have an interesting sound to the mastering.

One of my favorite Monday albums. Lots of jazz, Brazilian style, here. And to be honest I think Monday is a master at overdubbing herself for harmonies. Only a few, like Marvin Gaye, do it better. Great sound on this too.
