I'm pretty sure that sometime in my life I will need "Lawyers, Guns And Money" because "The shit has hit the fan".

I haven't listened to this one in a long time, and I have a totally different system now with upgraded power conditioning, digital front end, amplifier and speakers, and the tuba freaked me out! If you want to move a lot of air in your room and hear what it does, try this one out. I heard some distortion on the recording that I hadn't heard before, probably because I doubt I ever had it CRANKED like this before.

Vol. 11 of the Dragon Records series on Swedish baritonist Lars Gullin. It amazes me how good Dragon makes these fifties mono recordings sound. Very "modern" sound and doesn't seem to have been a lot of "processing" used.

Great music too! The way the Swedes here interpret (mainly West Coast) jazz fascinates me with the subtle differences.

Like the Mobile Fidelity version, which is very, very good, this one is all mono, and Clapton's guitar is pretty much front and center. But I think it sounds better than my MFSL version. I also have the original non-remastered, which has stereo versions on it, and those are pretty good, too, especially if you like Mayall's work. Very nice.

I have the Deram UK cd with both mono and stereo, good sound.

I haven't heard the others, the Deram works for me. I like "darker sound" in general. I have about six of the Mayalls in that series, music I grew up with.

I hear ya, though I do understand the classification. In the second part of the 'eighties I played in bands the leaders of which thought they were bluesmen but really they were rockers. The real distinction to me is the beat. A lot of Anglo=American blues has a rock beat to it and not a blues shuffle or other beat.  (I used to play shuffles and end up having to play a rock beat instead for the comfort of the band). The Mayall has a bluesier beat than otherwise and is very jazz and blues centered. I'd not call it rock, but if you do place it in a rock listing it's possible someone who was new to Clapton might stumble across it and might not otherwise. But I'm not sure who would be new to Clapton these days, his clout is pretty diminished. Though it might be something that someone who isn't that into the blues might buy if found in a rock listing.

But anyway, yeah, it belongs in blues.

I confess, I have never really seen why Bloomfield gets such praise, he really never did much for me in those days. But in those days I was very very much into the blues and jazz pioneers of the guitar, not the sixties' practitioners with the exception of Hendrix, who was my guitar god.

The new DVD box set of Miles Davis appearances at Montreux Jazz Festival is on the way to me, and so I've taken the cd box set of this material out and have been doing some very enjoyable listening.

I'm listening now to what is my favorite, the first show in the box set, from '73. The ERRs are really letting loose lots of space! Sounds great.

Pretty doggone good.

It is a cold misty day here in the middle of Illinois. It reminded me of The Isle of Man, where they have had a motorcycle race for the last 100 years or so. I dug out a old album that my father bought back in the mid 60's. My turntable is out in my garage, so I dragged my old Onkyo reciever from its new duty as DAC/preamp out and hooked it up to the Sota. The album was awsome, sounds of old racing motorcycles at "Full Chat". It made today worthwhile.

The Immersion box set of PF's Wish You Were Here arrived yesterday. Another cool presentation, though I already had the 2011 James Guthrie remaster, but the bonus discs of live performances, the various multichannel versions, and the Blu-Ray are quite nice. FWIW, it sounds superb.
