Now playing Hank Mobley, "The Flip" (Jazz in Paris version released this month). Seems to match the mastering of the Connoisseur edition released by Blue Note in 2003; this edition has a production credit of 2003 for Blue Note Records, though it does say "Mastering coordinated by Francois de Xuan". . . . Too bad they didn't use the recent Japanese mastering . . . that is superior.

Today's Dylan break: Greatest Hits Vol.2, the SACD version mastered by our Steve Hoffman.

I've always loved the tunes with Happy Traum that were never released before this issue, and the track that was only a single side, "Watchin' the River Flow" and the outtake from that session that had never been issued, "When I Paint My Masterpiece." That's the reason I bought the album when it was first released, and they still hold up really well.

Blu-Spec CD2. Wow.

I did an update to my HR-1s. The little bit of wire that Ziggy supplied to bridge one of the bottom speaker cable connectors to one of the top broke at the connection and was too short. For a while I ran a Mogami copper wire jumper between these connections on both speakers but though this gave me a great round bottom there was something missing in the midrange. So I bought a foot of "Tuneful Cables" silver wire in cotton sleeve for 4 dollars postpaid and used 7" of it for this purpose. . . okay now that is great sound. Very open midrange, had to turn the bass control down some, nice clear treble. And this is twenty minutes in. . . Wink

After hearing the three on one side of "Jazz Track", I eventually picked up a japanese CD of the album you played. All the tracks are also on the Miles/Coltrane Box. So good and so few recordings with this group.

I wager the Blu-Spec CD2 uses the same mastering as your Japanese CD, with the Blu-Spec CD2 process for mastering the disc, don't know why but that seems to make a subtle difference.

I have to say that four dollar piece of wire was one of the best audio deals I've found in a long time as far as bang for buck.

Right now. . . well I had to have another Miles from this round about time frame. . . . Miles is one of six artists who are like a "binge causing drug" to me. (The other five are Duke, Monk, Mingus, Jimi and Dylan).

Enjoying my second listen to this new cd release. I notice the Plangent Process was used with this release. I hear a very resonant piano sound and no "tape" fluctuation or speed issues which I've found to be benefits on other discs I have that have been mastered with this process (Errol Garner, Grateful Dead). Not audiophile studio sound, but any collector of Bill Evans material of this vintage will be quite happy with the sound. And some really nice playing here.

I confess I enjoy this one a lot more the more I spin it and more than I thought I ever would.

I'm not really a country fan, but I love the arrangement and instrumentation on this one. My wife IS a country fan. . . but she doesn't like this one. Go figure.

In the Cave for Vinyl Therapy after too long an absence. I have several LPs purchased via ebay to play for the first time. The first is this 2003 Analogue Productions 45 RPM reissue that I got sealed...sounds Fantastic...as expected. I just bought a 2008 MFSL 33 RPM reissue of Art's "The Way It Was" album yesterday.

PS...I have an OJC copy of this title...I think it was sealed when I got it, It is very good but this reissue is as good as I think it can get...whoa
