Every so often I put on an LP, or CD, that I have not played for many months. I've added more diffusion and aborbtion panels since the last play. Sonically this LP was always a bit disappointing. Well, last night it was WOW! glorious! Nice to know I'm on the right track with tweaks and such!

This CD had the best soundstage of anything I've played in the past. So much so I shopped for a Vinyl copy....but, none available!

PS...this sounds so good...better than the last time I listened...what had changed? I thought...switched out Amperex White Labels 7308s for 1962 Amperex White Label 6922s, Valve Art 274b out and 1944 RCA 5V4G in, Sylvania triple mica black plate 5751s out Sylvania Gold Brand gray plate triple mica gold pin 5751's in...can't remember if I changed the CSP3 input tube but it's an Amperex White Label 7308...

Doesn't have Joe Castro on it, but Teddy Wilson with Stan Getz in a trio for a third, in trio with no horns for a third, and with Zoot Sims in a trio for a third. Sound is better than expected (stereo).

I also have a nice vinyl copy. I didn't think I would want this album which was not included in the Mosaic box set. But when I found the LP and took a chance I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it then, and still enjoy it now.

Drove to my Dad's this rainy gray day and listened to the three Lafayette Gilchrist cds I have:

I really like these. Gilchrist reminded me right off the bat of Thelonious Monk in his approach to composition and arrangement and in some ways his piano playing. But there's elements that remind me of Mingus passion here in the arranging and playing of the horns, and also of Archie Shepp "New Thing" drama and presentation, with a dollop of grease and a side order of a tiny spoonful of creamy corn. Really digging these. . .need to get more.

And it's so nice to hear Flanagan here with Green, they are very compatible. Sure glad I went broke buying these SHM-CDs when they were new. They sound so good.

Have to say I think the Duelund resistors are breaking in . . . I'm suddenly hearing more depth to the sound and more music popping out of blackness. There is nothing quite like these that I've heard in resistors. I live quite easily with the Mundorf Supreme sound which is quite kind to not the greatest recordings, but these Duelunds just have a natural vividness and solidity to them that work so well with the HR-1s strengths. I'm going to try not to damage this set! (These are 36/10s).
