Lon, just back from Grocery Shopping and continued with Woody. In regards to the ZROCK...yes, you were right. I think the ZROCK could save those on a budget from having to consider expensive interconnects to tame the High end beast as I have not to mention the Resistors or different speaker cables and the tubes...OMG the Tubes!!. The ZROCK corrects for many sins with just a small adjustment. We all have different preferences and this allows us to fine tune for our desired sound with each recording no matter the source. Now to try it in the Cave...maybe tomorrow

PS...I would also suggest that maybe one should try a ZROCK II before buying a Sub or Two...especially if on a Budget...I plan on leaving my Omega sub off when I try the ZROCK in the Cave System.

Reply #15608 - 02/03/18 at 17:18:50 Great points. . . though I maintain that the quality cables and tubes really do allow you to really hear what's on the recordings and really hear what the ZROCK2 is doing as well. I'm not sorry to have the cables and tubes I have, and to have gotten so close to where I needed to be (with the Torii) before the ZROCK2 came along.

Organized a bunch of tubes while my wife watched HGTV shows and found a pair of Amperex 7308s that seem to have more life to them than I thought, and rolled them into the Taboo Mk III and Mk IV. Also replaced the Amperex 6085 in the ZROCK2 with an Amperex 6189. Have had them warming up and I have a chance to sneak in a CD, and it sounds really nice (but this cd always does!)

This will be the last LP for me. I have to go out to a play... "The Prisoner Of Second Avenue".

I Tried a RCA Triple Mica 6189 in the ZP3. I ended up preferring the RCA Triple Mica, Back plate, 5814...I'll eventually get around to putting one in the ZROCK. I've been using the 6085 there and think it, with the added gain compared to the 12AU7, messes things up a bit...too forward maybe. So I'll soon go back to a 12AU7 type without the higher gain. I will try the 6085 in the ZP3s at some point.

I replaced the Amperex 6085 in the ZROCK last night with a 1962 RCA triple mica black plate 5814....much better. This will stay in for a month or more. These are my favorite in the ZP3. The RCA Triple Mica Black Plate 6189 is very similar in structure and sound if not the same tube IMO.

Actually the tube I'm using that I thought was a 6189 is in fact a 6211, gold pin Amperex. (I just noticed this as the 6189 is still sitting on the shelf--it was hard to read the numbers on each of these, had to get a magnifier). This is sort of in between a 12AT7 and 12AU7 I think and it has a very mellow sound. I rolled all Amperex ECC189 into the ZTPRE and now I have an Amperex chain for all tubes in the ZTPRE and ZROCK2 and the input tubes of the two Taboos. Nice sound, so far. . . see how it settles in , if it's too warm or mellow.

Now I'm watching and listening to the excellent DVD that comes with this Adnet cd/DVD set.

I've yet another combination of input tubes and this time I'm going to let it settle in. I have Amperex 6211 in the ZROCK2 and the Taboo. . . It really tames the top end and yet is not too bass heavy. Sweet is the word to describe it I guess.

I also added the myrtle wood platform I sometimes use underneath the ZBIT and ZROCK2 which adds a touch of warmth, don't ask me why or how. I've had it out a month or more and it's welcome back in.

Note to self: don't mess with anything.

Listening to the Copenhagen '67 concert in Vol.1 of the Miles Davis Bootleg Series. . . . Listened to this and more from this set yesterday. This is the first time I've compared the US/Europe version to the Japan Blu-Spec CD version and they're different listening experiences. Both are excellent listening experiences.

And. . .Tony Williams. These guys were like a rock band in some ways by '67 and Tony is jazz drama incarnate.

I was going to buy this CD Wednesday but got distracted and didn't finish my order. I came back Thursday and it was gone...sometimes you snooze you lose. Anyway, I like this group and have a studio album of their's. Listening to the Live one now via Spotify>Red Dragonfly DAC>Taboo MK III>Audeze LCD 2s...

I'm also trying a Sylvania 5V4G rectifier that was sent by mistake...I was supposed to get an Admiral branded RCA 5V4G...sound good...It has a very different internal contruction compared to the RCA...

Not sure Ms. McRae was bold and vain enough to claim she was "second to none" but she was a singer with few equals in my opinion.

Reply #15647 - 02/10/18 at 12:52:14 I'm watching a Blu-ray (Luke Cage, season One) and listening via the Audeze LCD-2 and the Taboo Mk III. It always amazes me how great TV and Blu-ray sound is via headphones with the Taboo Mk III and Taboo Mk IV via the Audeze or the Oppo PM-1.
