I used these tapes as reference material, but this is the first time in a while that I listened just for the pleasure. The mono blocks are playing them back very well.

I put in a pair of Amperex 6DJ8s that I won at an auction of a quad for $37. I couldn't see the etched codes and they were said to be "matched". Well, when they arrived, I found they have no etched codes which means they are 70's era holland made tubes. Three had halo getters and one a dimpled disc which means it's likely about a 1975 vintage. I'm playing two with halo getters, have been for three days now and I'm surprised how good they sound. Also untested are another quad from a seller who had two quads of bugle boys with intact logos...after he accepted my $40 offer I tried to get the other quad but they were gone by then. When they arrived I found three with etched holland codes for 1962 and one for 1966. So these are definitely some cheap and good alternatives to Russian and Chinese tubes.

Anyway, the Music! This first...it's a 4 CD set just packed with excellent Big Band Jazz...playing CD #3...

I'm glad the Amperex are working out for you. Recently I put some Amperex in the Monoblocks and quickly took them out. In the Monoblocks, and the ZTPRE, I've found that the 6N1P and 6N5P are working wonderfully. .. and other NOS tubes just don't quite have the openness that they do in the midrange, and few have the touch of warmth these bring. I've got a lot of tubes that are going to be sitting in a cabinet. . . .

This one again. The Monoblocks have really opened up and this has never sounded better. . . .I'm so sold on the SET sound. No more big tubes for me. Speed and density applied to the Zen amp makes even the HR-1s sing.

Lon, I seem to be pretty easy to please. I like all the Amperex White labels and the 7308 and 6DJ8 orange globes. Now apparently the 70's Amperex 6DJ8's have been nice too. The only Amperex inputs I found lacking were orange globe 6922s. I also have liked all the Russian and Chinese inputs recommended my Steve. So I'm easy

What makes it even better is that I can fine tune with the ZROCK II...all's well with the Mono Blocks here.

Dana, I'm a sucker for a sweet female vocal singing Jazz especially but Pop too. I tried this one. Not sure how but Amazon is letting me play the whole album even though I discontinued my music subscription with them...still have prime. Just a wonderful lady...she's on my list. Playing via the Mono's etc. Gorgeous. Thanks, Mark.

Hey I like Amperex too and with my Torii and my non-UFO components I prefer them. But the UFO transformers let you hear more. . . and the 6N tubes are doing it best for me. Which is cool, I can get these from Steve (Steve's choices seem to be among the best possibilities). I'm glad I don't have to seek out bargains on pricey NOS tubes now. Leaves more for you. Wink

The 25th Monoblocks are really opening up, these amps are something else.

For the last hour I've been listening to music and watching two barred owls sitting in a tree right outside my living room window. They just flew off together around the side of my house and through the back yard. This is the spring of owls--what I assume are the same two owls have been sighted almost daily, and certainly heard daily, on our property. . . I bet there's a nest of owlings here too though I haven't found it yet. One of the benefits of my living in the woods!

My copy finally arrived. I have not seen the film but the soundtrack is absolutly amazing. Availble on Amazon Prime well worth the listen. Some of the songs are like going to park and two differnt parties are going on but somehow the music blends together.
