I’m listening to disc 1 of the 25th (and final) Volume of the “Duke ElingtonTreasury Shows” series of two CD sets. Not released in the US yet, this just arrived in the mail from Germany. Sounds excellent as one would suspect. I’m so glad Storyville managed to release all these volumes. There were 49 Lps and Storyville has included all 49 and supplemented the discs with broadcasts of the Ellington Orchestra also recorded during this time period. A great boon to Ellington fans!

Dana, last Friday I attended a performance of the Dallas Symphony Pops titled "Astor Piazzolla & Tango Caliente" aside from six tango dancers and a nice vocalist that performed for some tunes, there was a Bandoneon player. A bit different than Accordion ...a very unusual instrument. I'll have to listen to some Piazzolla later. Also, I've seen Dianne Reeves a couple times live...always enjoyable.

Nice, when I went to this Pops performance I wasn't too sure how much I'd like it but I must admit my expectations were far exceeded. Very enjoyable. And the three sets of Dancers, usually one pair at a time...added to the Music. One pair must have been added after the programs were printed...the added pair was from Dallas. I'll have to investigate this Tango Music further

The mix on this, the original mix I'm pretty darned sure, is amazing. Tony's drums just reverberate everywhere with chem trails of shimmer and Miles' trumpet moves subtly in the sound stage and everyone is playing their asses off.

Hearing this cranked on the Monoblocks is like hearing a record you've heard for 45 years for the first time because the remix creates a significantly different listening experience, and the Monoblocks are extracting all that there is to extract from the signal. And that's a lot.
