I'm listening to the first disc of the Mobile Fidelity SACD of Miles Davis, "Bitches Brew" --this features the original mix. It's been a longer time than usual since I've spun this and it's the first focused listen to the system I have now with the Monoblocks.
If I were art director of the ad below I would have cut "Jazz Rock/Fusion" and the line would be "A Masterpiece." It's really its own animal this set of collaged recordings; and for me it's like a time machine to hear it now. . . I think of different times this album has been a part of my listening rotation, different systems, different versions of "me," shared with different friends. And I hear the future, the past, an enthusiastic then "present" to the music reproduced. . . For my listening world and for others this is a studied suite of compositions. The remix version shows a brilliant studio recording. But this original mix is like jungle music to me, there's more myth and majesty.
And the SACD set is a fantastic listen.
