Alice Babs & Duke Ellington "Serenade to Sweden"

I'm listening to the cd version put out by Real Gone Music of the Reprise Records lp. Reprise allowed Duke to produce a handful of excellent records featuring Babs, Bud Powell, Dollar Brand and his wife Sathima Bea Benjamin. I think these would make an excellent box set--my guess is there is additional recorded material.

More Blue Note. Freddie Hubbard "Hub Cap" Analogue Productions SACD

Doing some rectifier rolling because I can, and because I am breaking in new fuses in three components and it seems a good thing to do (really liking the fuses). At the moment Mullard GZ32s in the Monoblocks and an RCA 5V4G in the CSP3-25. Gives an old school tube texture and helps with some thin recordings. Clicked the ZBIT up to step 18 out of 20 from 17.

Haven't figured out how to post pics on my Mac yet, was always a Windows guy. But:

Listening now to the first album of ZEPHYR.

Candy Givens on vocals, Tommy Bolin on guitar. For those of you unfamiliar with Tommy, Google him up and be amazed. If he didn't die at 25 ( maybe 26 ), we would be talking about him in hushed tones like the gods of guitars. He really was that good. Replaced Richie Blackmore in Deep Purple good. And that's good. And James Gang good.

Do yourself a favor. There are still some good vinyl copies out there.

GET ONE !!

And, BTW, Candy is JJ with a little refinement and no loss of power.

Amazing music if you like power blues/rock.

Tried to break the Ellington blitz. . . but saw this by the system and had to put it back in.

Over the last few years this disc has really begun to mean a lot to me. It's a musical about love (interracial love in the source material) and family and love and family mean more and more to me as time goes by, and this disc I really "feel." Nice sound too.

Ellington the year this music was originally written.

Freddie Cole is very good on this as are many of the instrumentalists.

After the inventive, often dissonant initial tracks coming into "Easy Street" rather straight and resonant is a relief and joy. Nice mono sound on this. . . really nice remastering as is par for the course for new official Ra releases.
