I love this one. I was floored by her second album, so ordered this third one and it's different but equally moving.

Now on to this . . . the Jackson tunes are actually very cleverly arranged and performed. And the "original compositions" are even better.

I've already played half of this short stack. One is Stan Getz, Featuring Horace Silver. I've never seen it before.

You know when you get a really good book and don't want to put it down and in a couple of days, you've finish it. Then you feel like you have wasted it by just ripping through it so fast.
I feel that same regret coming my way with my not allowing this Silver stack even a breath between plays.
And yet I can not slow down.
As soon as I get the next disc clean and dry, it goes right on, next!

BTW, I love it when you drop snippets of a history lesson. Often I have inklings, but I also jump into more research very often from a mere tidbit someone alludes toward.

It's not like I am out of stuff to google, but I seldom find myself as entrenched and wanting more as I am with this little tenderfoot Horace Silver collection.

Next carton I uncorked is completely full of Arkive Produktion digital sets, from the '80s and '90s.
It's all classical.
First set I cleaned is J.S.Bach, St John Passion, Gardiner with only two disc inside, but it is packaged as if it was a massive collection. Includes a booklet. Most have a book to read, if I could read German.
They are all German, made in Hamburg.

And even this first - Lordy Gods! The sound is engulfing and almost chrystaline with clear edges to every instrument, you can see through the sound and find the next instrument gleaming with clarity. Even the ambience of the venue is like you are floating in the music.

Several variations of search do not bring up much about these collections. I need to spend more time researching.
First LP has knocked me for a loop.
I will play more.

I was not actually in a classical "mood" today, but from the instant the needle first dropped, I am all in!

I can't explain it and I don't find pics. I'll have to wrangle my phone around or something.

Oh, this set demands the subwoofer! I will continue to disagree with some who believe that the impact of a live orchestra in the subaudible range has to do with pure tonality. My only concession would be that it would not be as pleasant if the subtonality was not produced well. My concession.

There is always at least a single pulse to a massive crescendo that must be reproduced by very capable low frequency transducers.
Then of course, all the beauty of what just impacted us comes to exceed our expectation and even clear perception sometimes. It's almost like as if your ears have to "blink" before they can do any more.
A really amazing recording. Playing that second side again.
Not typing this time.

Some of these were actually recorded before the digital era and remastered for digital LP production. We'll see how that goes.

I have shelved that big box of Arkive Produktion digital sets.

I played two more discs of Chopin Nocturnes and they were equally jaw dropping.

Going to end the evening with some Chet Baker, Almost Blue Live In Paris and Tokyo.
I actually have two versions of this.
I like this one better, but the other has an extended collection, like a Deluxe, but this one sounds better.

The only thing I had of his was a PBS DVD historical series from the '90s I ordered because I loved the music so much. Gotta start somewhere!

Billy Strayhorn faced the same problems but he had being a key member of the Ellington organization to help him, and he spent a lot of time in Paris, an understanding city.

The rest of this carton has all older '50s music, like two Stan Kenton albums, three Ben Webster, but it is mostly a Jazz Messengers who's who type of thing.

Found my first 10" LP from this collection here. I cherry picked this one to look up next because it's a 10" and found that even this '70s reissue has a bit of monetary value.
Glad to have it, but honestly it sounds a little rough. Nothing wrong with the vinyl, still worth a listen. There's quite a lot of tape noise. Oh well, it was recorded before I was born and I'm not that fresh either.
