Found a nice double handful of Max Roach in the stack.

Known to me, but I am not that familiar with his work. Again, I only have a compilation CD.

With fourteen albums to play through, I'll be a bit more informed. I'm about half way through at this point and I am still listening to this music.

Max Roach 4 Plays Charlie Parker. I like this one!

I'm enjoying this bunch of oldies!

Thanks, Lon for putting up that Miles Davis article.
I learned a lot, too.
It made me go to wiki and search through the references. The references to wiki articles are the main reason I support them.

I try to be patient and methodical and careful pulling albums out of these cartons. One little patch of them was annoying me because it seemed like too much protective plastic was being floppy there.

So I gently seperate this bunch and they are all 10" LPs by Sidney Bechet from the '50s. Ten little 10" albums!

Several Blue Note, Columbia, Vogue and with a little more digging, I find three more Bechet but on 12" LPs. The 12" are previously released material, produced in the '60s on Up Front label.
None of the Up Front collections are on Discogs for some reason.

Anyway, next up is Sidney Bechet, Jazz Classics Vol 1. Not original, but a '54 reissue.

To me this music just feels older than the dates it was made.  Great find!

That's some great music! I have all the Bechet released and some unreleased up through the mid-fifties on cd in a series of cds on Masters of Jazz (Media 7 France) and Chronogical Classics (France) as well as American and Japanese cds. I really like his music!

As much as I am focused elsewhere right now, I will always love Ozzy!
He is so over played in media and ads these days, I just don't play him much, unless I have a visitor that asks.
I activated my subwoofer system for my latest visitor. But he's a bit of a Pink Floyd fan. No problem.

His first question went about like ~~ You have all this really cool stuff, why are you using these single driver things?

I have just endured a four day trading session with this buddy, but he is a McIntosh guy. I am not letting go of my treasured McIntosh gear!! I only use one piece, but these are mine!

We talked about other items and even went out to play with these items.
Ended up with me letting go of some old stuff and acquiring a new thing.
Grin

Anyway, in the back end of this carton was fourteen older Sonny Rollins LPs.
I have quite a bit of Rollins on CD, but only three on LP, until now. And all of mine is newer. Nothing on MetroJazz label.

Next up ...  Sonny Rollins And The Big Brass.
Now as far as I can tell from Discogs info, this one is an original release.
Only one in the batch. All the others are reissue, repress, etc.

Grateful Dead "Grayfolded" disc 1

A headphone listen as one of my 300B tubes died on Monday. . . after only 3 months of use, a real bummer.

But . . . this one is made for headphones in important ways. Always a trip.

Lee Wiley With Billy Butterfield And His Orchestra "A Touch Of The Blues" RCA Victor Japan 24bit K2 remastered lp facsimile cd.

Now, I think I prefer the darker, richer sound of young Lee Wiley, BUT this album is amazing. Butterfield and the arrangements and Orchestra make a divine pocket for Lee to fit in, and her expressive nature has matured so gracefully, and that vibrato has crystalized--she reminds me of Bechet in having a strong personal vibrato signature.

There are great tunes chosen here as well. I've always loved the Louis Armstrong tune "Someday You'll be Sorry" and she does a great rendition of the Jack Teagarden signature tune "A Hundred Years from Today."

And this disc really sounds great. Sounds best with the phase reversed on my DAC.

I knew I would eventually find a stack of Brubeck albums. But this is closer to two stacks. A handful from Fantasy (five), about twenty from Columbia, six from Atlantic, a few more including Concord and Decca all the way up to a couple of Telarc releases.

Brubeck has always been one of my favorites, along with Kenny Burrell. Those guys just appeal to my beatnik side in some way. I would never wear the stupid beret or the ridiculous English riding cap, but for most of the rest, I was always there.

Many of these I have on CD, but not on LP.

There are a few I have never seen before and while I have about twenty modernish CDs, finding thirty nine Dave Brubeck LPs in this carton has set me beside myself. It got to where my jaw could drop no further.

I have mostly the more popular, common releases on CD, easy to locate and buy.

Going with Paper Moon, next, one with which I am familiar. It's a Concord.

I bought a lot of Carmen McRae cds from eBay--a few duplicates as a result, but some nice things I've been meaning to pick up on cd that I have on LP and a few really nice compilations. This is one that I have that pairs two LPs that I have in not that great shape.

Carmen McRae "Velvet Soul" Laserlight cd

Pairs two Sonny Lester produced LPs on Groove Merchant from the early 'seventies. Carmen in pure jazz settings. . . can't beat that. She was a master.

I played nine of the Brubeck albums so far, about a quarter of what's there, but I don't want to "waste them" as I do sometimes. I tend to just rip through newly acquired treasures.
I am attempting a measure of restraint, today.

Starting the day with something a bit more jumpy in places than usual.

Bud Shank Plays The Music Of Bill Evans.
It's been out since '04, but I got it four or five years ago.

Sorry, I tried to post a link to the Bandcamp site to preview this album, but it may not be allowed. Can not get that to work. Might just be that I have an account there and everything is automatic for me.
But, they want non-members to go through their processes to benefit from their hard work.

OK, so the hot link function of this forum won't work with that site.

Kenny Burrell "Night Song" Verve Japan SHM-CD UCCU-8064

Despite the nocturnal title, great Saturday afternoon music. That guitar tone!

Just got another HDTT download, and boy does it sound good.

DSD256 Download.

This album has always been one of my (everyones?) favorite. So one of my first hi res files was the Analog Productions DSD download, which quickly became one of my demo "discs." And this distances it by a wide margin.

Great music! I really like the mono mix.

Right now
A few compilations of material I already have were in a lot of Carmen McRae cds I bought from eBay (cheap). This one really does sound good and is nicely selected and sequenced.

Your up early Lon  :o

Right now it´s:

a crisp fall morning here in Iceland the sun is out, the sky´s are clear and a hint of frost on the ground...

This recording is crisp and clear too... and thanks to ECM there is a hint of frost in the sound...

Yes, I bought that LP in '74 or so and still have it. Also have an SHM-SACD.

I get up about 4 a.m. my time. . . Fiona the dachshund wakes me up, won't take no for an answer. The good thing is I can get about 3 hours of listening in while the rest of the world is so quiet.

I seemed to be on a Blue Note jag so I continued with one of the most unique titles in the label history, Eddie Gale's "Black Rhythm Happening" . . . a sort of Sun Ra-esque partial family affair, with Elvin Jones powering it along. A record that I grow fonder and fonder of as time goes on (and perhaps I grow whackier).

This is the 75th Anniversary cd from Blue Note Japan.

I’ve been on a Venus Record Label purchasing spree lately.  All of their albums are very quiet and I like their mastering.  According to the company…. they use a signature 24-bit mastering process, named "Hyper Magnum Sound," that produces "very powerful sound with strong presence.  Plus…you can’t be the Japanese pressings.  Just got this LP plus two others from Acoustic Sounds.   Barney Wilen’s Passione…

Eddie Higgins Quartet “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” on Venus Records.  Me and my wife absolutely love Eddie Higgins…whether he’s playing as trio or a quartet…it’s great relaxing music to enjoy.
