I did not have this music, until yesterday.
It has gotten three spins already, including yesterday after I finally got the damn plastic off it.

I really do not need to buy any new music for ages! But, this is old music, so I am good.
I could not allow Amazon to just sit there with many thousands of them, taunting me the whole time while I do not have even one.

Well, a large part of this particular release was not available, even among collectors, til now. . . and it all sounds so much better than it did when what was available before was out there in bootleg cd or LP or among collector's tapes.

It's a fantastic cd! Barney Wilen at 18 was astonishing.

As I was hoping, the first half of this carton was all Dave Brubeck and the back half is his crew and sidemens' solo work.

This one grabbed me first. It is a German pressing from '62, so possibly an early or maybe original.
I thought it was intriguing that every track has the word, "time" in the title.

Joe Morello, It's About Time on a cherry LP.

A nice double handful of Paul Desmond as leader.
Before this stack I only have a single compiled "best of" CD of his work.

An RCA reissue up next, but side one was quite nice.

In my never ending search for more trombone jazz, I found this Eddie Bert set of albums.

Played "Kaleidoscope" earlier, but this newer one I found from Fresh Sound Records.

All the RCA Desmond are excellent. He was a consistent player, and his sound so appealing.

I love Bert's work with Mingus, and his Savoy recordings!

The only Eugene Wright in the stack. This appears to be a UK release on Philips.
It's interesting and fun; bass man, bari sax, piano and drums make for an easy path for me.

I went to Wiki and Discogs and this is all that shows with him as a leader. He is a sideman for about nine or ten others we all love, over many years.
I wish there was more!

Picked this up at an antiques store last week. The proprietor had just obtained a collection of 4,000 albums, half jazz. I'll need another trip to peruse some more.

Must say the entire box set is in great shape, sounding excellent.

Shuffling through the Brubeck crew stack, this one came up.

I also have three others, one being J.J.'s Broadway on Verve.
I don't really listen to much Broadway, but I don't mind folks retooling Broadway tunes into a jazz feel.
That one will be up next.

J. J. Johnson, Blue Trombone.  Mono, Columbia labeled reissue.

Those J.J. Johnsons on Columbia are very interesting. I am a big Bobby Jaspar fan and there are a lot of great appearances by him on these. And Elvin Jones! I have the material on this Mosaic set:

https://www.discogs.com/release/3220467-JJ-Johnson-The-Complete-Columbia-JJ-John...

I just finished listening to Mario Adnet's Adventure Music cd "Jobim Jazz"--a favorite.

Now on to another, older favorite, on ECM, "Standards Live" by the Keith Jarrett Trio.

Monday Michiru "Routes"

This one will test the resolution of your system.

One of the first ones that I heard of hers and got me into collecting her work.

I love her lyric writing. And she is so lovely.

Hey, Lon, you had mentioned Carmen McRae (more than once) recently and I remembered seeing this in the stack. I had to go dig it out, give it a spin. I like it and it makes me want more McRae.

Carmen McRae & Dave Brubeck,  Take Five (Recorded Live At Basin Street East)

There seems to be quite an interesting list of albums, according to Wiki, recorded live at Basin Street East, including Quincy Jones, Herbie Mann, Della Reese and another Brubeck. That's just a smattering.

BTW, I found that J.J. Johnson Mosaic Complete Columbia set offered. I started with eBay and almost lost my grip on what I thought was a well captured lunch. $999.99 for #419 (IIRC) in the series.
But some Discogs sellers offer it as well at more affordable pricing, just over $100 and some list the series #.
I'm going to grab #45-- from a USA seller.

Yes, that's a good one. Carmen and Louis Armstrong are also with Brubeck on "The Real Ambassadors."

I haven't seen much in the way of vocals in this stack of cartons, other than a stack of early Doris Day. I am certain there will be some.

Culling and whitling down this collection is not going well, because I want to keep almost everything.

On that note, I did find three cartons that are '70s and '80s radio pop LPs that I am going to give away. Stuff like America, Cosby, Stills, Nash - some with Young, Bob Seger, Steve Miller, Poco, several soundtracks, Toto, Chicago (I snagged the first three, which I like a lot), Genesis and Phil Collins solo and Eagles, etc. I cherry picked about ten albums out; the rest go.
I know just whose day to make with those cartons.

I would give all that away as well. Not much I'm really fond of in that type of music and if I am really fond of it I have it in one form or another.

Off to a breakfast meeting with in-laws. At least they're my favorite of the in-laws (next weekend will be meetings with others).

Like you, I either already have that music I like from when it was current or I have the music elsewise. That, but mostly, I have already had my fill.
If I get to jonesin' for some of those sounds, it's all still on the radio somewhere and available in every streaming service on the planet.

Going with another spin of Miles Davis, Live-Evil while I get my culling routine cranked over and running again.

Enjoy your family time!

Eight Cal Tjader albums as a leader in the stack, so far.
This one has the coolest cover art.
I have actually seen a similar scenario with lizards, but never with a band playing and the audience in the shade. Love it!

Just had to find out what this was about. I have never heard it before.
There are several listed with colored vinyl, but mine's black and mono. All the indications of an original release or early repress. Fantasy label.

I can't imagine how colored translucent vinyl from '58 might have sounded. I'm glad this one is black!

I found a really nice stack of Bill Smith. I don't normally bend over backward for clarinet, but I was curious. Another win, here.

This is the third one I have cleaned up and spun. I get that this music is old, '62, but it has an "old sound" musically that appeals to me right now.
The recording work does not sound old.

The American Jazz Ensemble,  New Dimensions
An Epic LP in mono with original identifiers in the "Run Out" areas.
That's all I have to go on from Discogs, but a nice album to have, indeed.

When I get through this stack of Brubeck soldiers, I am going to set the table aside and find some of those many cartons of tightly packed CDs.

I have never looked into a single one yet.

I was so stoked to have so many old decent LPs, I just went straght that way now for about six months.
I have every carton labeled with some type of inscription of my own, related to something I saw on his "manifest sheets" but the cartons are also double stacked, one in front of another, on my makeshift wooden racks for now.
I had to get them up off the floor. I could not allow any of them to be stacked on top of each other!
They are LPs, after all. You can not stack boxes of them on top of each other and expect anything but disaster.

Fudd out, here.
Smiley
I have some shuffling to do so I can find a few CD cartons.

A nice stack of Bill Smith is not a common thing! He was a good player. Although the king of the clarinet for me is the oddball Pee Wee (Charles Ellsworth) Russell, I really do like Smith. . . and Jimmy Giuffre . . . and Buddy DeFranco. . . and . . . well I like a lot of clarinet players!

Right now
Probably the last concert that Chet Baker performed that was recorded. Such a shame we lost him when we did, how we did. This one is with the Radio Orchestra Hannover, and the  The NDR Big Band.

Recorded in concert on April 28th, 1988 at the Funkhaus, Hannover, West-Germany.
