I remember how exciting this 2 LP set was when first issued. I've had a number of different versions. Listening today to the 2023 Blu-Spec CD2 version, disc 1. (I love the Japanese cover).

Sound especially good. It's a joy listening to music I've known for decades (in this case more than four) with the current splendid system.

I remember the impact this had in '81 when it was released. I had digested all the electric Miles before this, and had gotten myself grounded in the earlier Columbia albums and some of the Prestige and Blue Note material. And then, out of retirement came this--Marcus Miller made an instant impression on me and a few of my friends.

So, what would you consider the most covered jazz standards? Others that are in my mind are Round Midnight or My Funny Valentine. Other OtRs: DSD download from HDTT On CD.

I really don't like Over the Rainbow so I'm glad it is uncommon. It really is in comparison to other songs jazz players fequent. I don't remember the Webster, probably have it. Probably have the Brubeck, it doesn't wring a bell. I can't remember a lick of the Getz version, which is unusual but it's because I don't like the song. I don't follow Maynard after the early 'sixties so never had that version.

Round Midnight, my Funny Valentine, sure, 'fifties and 'sixties and beyond those are well-known. Brubeck's In Your Own Sweet Way, Rollins' Oleo, Monk's Straight no Chaser, Miles' So What, etc. Also non-jazz-player-penned tunes such as many Gershwin tunes, and Love for Sale, On Green Dolphin Street, Autumn Leaves, All of You, All of Me, Body and Soul, On the Sunny Side of the Street, There Will Never be Another You, Too Close for Comfort, so many. A whole different batch of tunes for the 'thirties and forties. And many Duke Ellington tunes--Solitude, Satin Doll, Things Ain't What they Used to be, and more,Fats Waller,--Jitterbug Waltz, Honeysuckle Rose, Ain't Misbehaving etc. -- and also Jelly Roll Morton and Original Dixieland Jazz Band tracks like King Porter Stomp and Livery Stable Blues were standards for the early jazz and 'forties Traditional bands, and over the decades many tracks that Armstrong played such as West End Blues, Someday You'll be Sorry (an Armstrong composition), On the Sunny Side of the Street, Sugar, etc.

So many more!

Too early to post my impressions…but all I can say that this addition has really opened up my system to a whole new level. All I can say is Wow!! Enjoying the Eddie Higgins Trio Christmas Album on LP.

Includes some very mid-1960s horn section work on some tunes, and recording does mix both Kenny Burrell's sound with recognizable Xmas tunes.

Miles Davis "Miles in Berlin" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 2 cd set, disc 2, the "pseudo-stereo" mastering used when the session was first released in Germany on LP.

It sounds really good! Surprisingly. Will probably listen to this version as often as the mono later released.

And what a concert this was! Pretty certain this was the first official recording of Wayne Shorter with these band members.

Turns out this has a version of "Over the Rainbow" on it. I bet I skipped over it more times than not, though it's not bad really, I just don't like that song, and am glad it's rather uncommon as a jazz standard.

Classic Oscar Peterson at his best. Excellent recording…very quiet and nice separation of instruments.

David Brubeck Quartet Debut in the Netherlands 1958 on Vinyl. This album is another great one. Dead quiet and very musical with a nice soundstage. If you like Brubeck then this album is for you. This one is a first pressing Serial # 764 of 2000.

These two albums are the first ones that I own. I have my eye on the Getz and Ellington ones for my next purchase sometime after Christmas. I’m sure the Chet Baker ones are really good.
