Classic 'fifties jazz indeed. My mind boggles when I think that Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell and Elmo Hope all used to hang out and wander about Harlem together as young men. And Frank Foster, who is featured here, was a strong force in the Count Basie Orchestra--a musician who straddled the jazz froms of the time.

Elmo Hope's wife Bertha Hope is also an excellent pianist.

I pulled this box set out to listen to it as my best friend just got it and it is fun to be listening to it again as he experiences it for the first time. I love Jarrett. . . through the years . . . I never tire of his solo concerts and trio work.
