Forgot I had bought this box set and had only listened to "Hejira" twice before setting it aside. So. . . Joni Mitchell "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter" is playing now.

I always forget how domineering Jaco Pasorious is on this album. I wish he had been a bit more. . . toned down. My favorite track remains the beautiful beautiful "Silky Veils or Ardor." Just an amazing performance. The highlights of this album for me are Joni's beautiful guitar playing and her layered vocals when she overdubs.

One of my friends once told me "Hell would be three discs of 'Paprika Plains' alternate takes." I get his point but I do like "Paprika Plains"--and the piano playing sound so good here.

John Guerin's drums have always impressed me on this album. For some reason this listen he his work reminded me of Sonny Greer's.

This reissue revives the alternate, non-controversial, new cover.

Another very cool morning. . . with a bright moon. I wanted to sleep more but Fiona the dachshund had other plans.

Starting off the day with the new cd from the daughter of two of my favorite musicians, Dora Morelenbaum. Her father and mother, Jacques and Paula were instrumental in so much of the Brazilian music I love. Nice, contemporary recording . . . more "MPB" than her parents' musics but I'm enjoying it.

Mental Strain at Dawn: A Modern Portrait of Louis Armstrong, cd

This an exceptional recording that it is hard to believe is over thirty years old now. Exciting, in my opinion innovative, and recorded in a manner that matches the material. Every soloist seems inspired. A precursor to Allen "Wild Man Genius" Lowe's current releases.

The drums are recorded big and hot, but that's great because the drumming is excellent. And the lack of chordal instruments gives an open air march to the feel and sound.

Finished doing some cd maintennce (putting discs by the same artist in slimline double jewel cases). It's warm in the house this morning, we're nearing the end of Indian Summer. Fiona the dachshund is very sleepy. She's getting older by the day. Me too.

A bit warmer this morning than last though it will be a cooler day.

The leaves on the thousands of trees around our home have become beautiful. . . and have started to fall in droves. I dread the bare trees ahead. . . snow will make them beautiful again.

Starting off with one of the discs that arrived Tuesday from Japan.

Yesterday I got in another set of Stack Audio EQ isolation feet and replaced the VooDoo Cable IsoPods under my PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter with the new set.

A subtle improvement in spatial presentation and a slightly clearer low frequency response. I really love these "feet"! One more set, to go under my turntable, is probably in my future.

Right now enjoying Santana "Welcome" Columbia LP.

Leon Thomas as vocalist is a PLUS.

A treasure trove of classic recordings arrived here yesterday. Man, for a jazz fan like me this is a real joy of a reissue.

The first disc is a real thrill: Bunk Johnson, a reconfiguration of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Sidney Bechet and the famous "Midnight Session" with Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden and so many other jazz stars.

Sound is fantastic!
