Well, I was playing a few Bethlehem recordings because a package of new 2024 reissues of four Bethlehem titles was scheduled to arrive this afternoon and it just did.

I was hoping these new remasterings didn't sound better than the 2013 series that was released in Japan and. . . well they do sound a little better. Perhaps just a tiny bit less "loud" but more open sounding and dynamic by a bit. I'll try not to buy more, but based on this playback of the first one (one of my favorite discs, period, in my listening history) it will be hard to resist not buying a few more of the titles I like the most.

Thanks for the recommendation. You turned me on to Lester last year, and for some reason I overlooked this album. Currently listening to this now…and I’m really digging it. For the past month I’ve been exclusively listening to my system with my Torii, but since tonight is a chill night, I switched my system back to my Zen monos.

Just to be clear, I'm simply chronicling what I am listening to, or part of what I am listening to as not all of what I listen to gets written down. I'm not necessarily making any recommendations. So many here listen to music that I DO NOT. . . which makes me hesitant to recommend anything unless I feel it is genre-crossing universally just plain BAD ASS!

I've been comparing older versions of Bethlehem cds with ones reissued this year. It's actually astonishing how easily these components allow me to pinpoint differences in sound and texture. Man, we are blessed with luxurious listening.

The touch Nichols has, his wonderful use of the pedals, the orchestral textures he can create with his pianism. Wow.

A new year. . . a new snowfall. About an inch. The bare trees are beautiful again!

Stayed up til the ball dropped . . .with an effort and got to sleep seven hours and feel my head full of fog. Not used to that much sleep!

Starting off the new year with a new acquisition from discogs.com --- some Swedish jazz.

Arne Domnérus "Arne Domnérus" Four Leaf Clover Records 2 cd set, disc 1

This disc has American Jimmy Rowles on piano and vocals joins the alto saxophonist, which is the main reason I purchased it.

Reply #26314 - 01/02/25 at 01:36:12 Currently listening to this Japanese 1st pressing on vinyl of one of my favorite albums. Stan Getz meets Jerry Mulligan. These two play so well together and the arrangements are so well coordinated. This pressing is very quiet and has such a natural tone, that it’s intoxicating.
