This was a great pairing between these artists, and the music is a nice blend between them without one trying to upstage the other. Streaming through Roon and pulled from Qobuz in CD quality.

Wow, woke up to 35 degrees and a day supposed to be in the forties. And a big arctic blast to come in the next few days. Winter. . . well, we're in it. Can be unpredictable. I remember when we got married nine years ago this February it was 63 degrees. That was fortunate as we were married outside on the dock by the lake!

So I finally received my first pressing Japanese Import of the Empire Strikes back on vinyl. This album is absolutely dead silent and near perfect. This is a promo copy, which is released ahead of the main retail copies. This is as close to the original as you can get. The score is just amazing and really gives you an appreciation on the talent of John Williams. Even if you don’t like Star Wars….this is still a great album to listen to.

I know what it is like to find the ultimate version of a favored recording, congrats! (Though I'm not a Star Wars fan nor do I really like film music on record).

Starting off this COLD morning with the last cd I listened to yesterday. Gently intense music.

This album fascinates me whenever I put it on.

This reissue sounds a bit different than the Savoy/Denon cds which sound more "Rudy Van Gelder" like. Both are great great listens.

Thanks Lon! Yes it’s a nice feeling. This will add to the collection of albums to play for those non audiophiles who come over and want to hear vinyl.

Just finished up work and off for the next few days while Jersey hits a deep freeze in the teens and single digits tonight. Enjoying this album from Hank Mobley. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to him, and this album is great. Currently Streaming in Roon.

Listening to a cd that arrived yesterday from cdjapan, Chet Baker "Live in Japan 1986 Sendai VOL. 1" Timeless Records/Solid Records Japan cd

Sound is good, not great--sounds best to me with Phase "Reversed" on my DAC.

Okay, the SDFB has been powered on about five hours now and I returned to listening, and chose an old favorite, Miles Davis "Milestones" and this time the newest version I acquired, the Mobile Fidelity Lab stereo SACD.

I save this for special occasions, it's still pretty new to me, this true stereo version, so familiar with the amazing mono. It's sounding very good indeed. "Dr. Jekyll" is playing which is one of the hippest tunes ever put onto tape. I love the Coltrane solo, and when Miles is strolling and playing the blues it just really sounds fantastic to me.

There's a promise of near freezing weather today--hope it materializes. It's thirteen right now.

Started off this morning with "Sweet Tooth" by Mali Obomsawin, a thoroughly modern loudish cd that is a good test for my newest upgade to the system, and intriguing music.

And now I'm spinning another disc that will help with assessment of the changes, Mark Turner "In this World."

Decided to play another old favorite, and decided on this version, Sony SRCS 9121~2, the 20 Bit LP facsimile version.

I totally see and understand why Miles moved to Henderson and then Foster. . . but the grooves that Holland and DeJohnette created I think are just the coolest in the history of funky jazz.

Mark Turner "In this World" Warner Bros cd

I'm re-visiting a fantastic disc I pulled from the less-traveled shelves and don't want to put back. It is imo a superbly engineered disc (recorded and mixed by James Farber) and just a phenomenally performed group of recordings.

Mark Turner is exhibiting and being captured at his inventive and technical best--he shows off a bit his speed and mastery of articulation while also presenting his constant lyricism.

Each instrument is taking part in telling stories here, and they are mixed with a balance that is cohesive and seems to draw you into the room with the men. I love listening to this one.
