Another cold, still morning. My wife slept better last night than the night before, it was my turn to lose some sleep due to the dachshund being rather needy. But I am eager to get some listening in.

A very nicely recorded series of interpretations of Herbie's music in a guitar/bass/sax trio of immense talent.

Revisiting this cd. Wow. I shouldn't have let it sit un-listened to for so long since I last spun it. Beautiful music arranged (mostly written by as well) Mario Adnet, and the sound quality is excellent. The final track, "Caravan" is excellent, showing its devotion to the original, and also at the close bringing in what appears to me to be Charles Mingus Shaw-Hafi-Knepper era elements. Love it!

Enjoying the warm morning while it lasts. Some of the sloping sheet of ice that is my driveway has melted, that's great I think.

Starting off with this classic in great sound. I almost listened to the Bootleg Series volume that features these tape reels, but decided to just hear the familiar glory of the released material only.

And the sound is very good.

Arrived yesterday this newly discovered release by Ella Fitzgerald. . . .

"Moment of Truth: Ella at the Coliseum" Verve cd

Tapes were unearthed in the private tape collection of Verve Records founder Norman Granz - mixed directly from 4-track tapes recorded by Wally Heider - resulting in higher-fidelity audio than most ‘lost’ recordings. This album Includes the first Ella recordings of the hit songs “Alfie” and “Music to Watch Girls By” and her band features the rarely-heard but hard-swinging trio of Jimmy Jones, Bob Cranshaw and Sam Woodyard. The Ellington band captured here was at its peak, featuring Cat Anderson, Cootie Williams, Harry Carney, Paul Gonsalves, Jimmy Hamilton, Johnny Hodges and Russell Procope.

Harpist Brandee Younger is also featured on five of the album’s tracks.
