I got a FLAC of this from a friend...I don't think it's an LP rip as it's too quiet compared to other vinyl rips I have.

WOW, what a great record! I'm really enjoying this and need to find some more!

LR,  there's a lot of great Mingus out there.  Here are three full albums on You tube...lots more on spotify. The pictured album below should be your next purchase/listen. All Music Guide will have reviewer and customer opinions to help guide you...Enjoy.  Mark.

So, this was the *very* first album (record) I ever purchased (the original, not the MoFi pictured). I was probably 11 or 12. I loved the songs on the radio, and it was different from what my parents listen to (Beatles, Yes, Donovan).

Fast forward to a couple of months ago and this was one of the first CDs I put on my "new" system which included my Oppo BDP-105, MG944, and souped up 15 year old SE84-A....it was so uninvolving that I was like..meh, and I didn't even make it through a couple songs before I changed out the CD. I've had a few MoFi CDs that I thought were a bit flat (more on that in another thread) so I figured that's all it was. Fast Forwarded again to last night, I'm still ripping all my CDs to FLAC now that I've got a setup that I feel plays back digital files as well or even better than CD (more on that in another thread as well), and I come across my MoFi Dream of the Blue Turtles and pop it in on a whim.

Well, I was transfixed. I guess the system needed to break in a little bit, as it was very involving and had my attention as I continued to rip my CD collection...in fact it distracted me from ripping my CDs and I wound up just enjoying the music and forgetting what I was doing.   Wink

I love this stuff. No matter how much I think I know and hear, something still catches me off guard and makes me sit back and think deeply about what's happening.

I love the links you're posting!

My Oppo BDP-105 has YouTube on it, so I can sample the music through my Decware gear and see if it's something I want to track down a good copy of! Thanks for the links!

OK LR,  let's see if I lose you with this one.  This is really stuck in the 70s but I still love it. One of the albums that I picked up last friday after work and played yesterday with the ZP3 Phono Stage...was Chuck Mangoine's Concert LP with the Hamilton Philharmonic at Massey Hall, "The Land Of Make Believe".  I'm sure I have a copy of this somewhere but this was a clean cheap used copy.  It sounds glorious in a 70's sorta way.  It lists everyone who sings or plays a note on the recording.  Including Jeff Tkazyik, whom those in the know will recognize as Jeff Tyzik, the current Principal Conductor of the DSO Pops as well as the Rochester Pops.  Anyway, enjoy the clips, Mark.

I've had my new Torii  MK IV hooked up for about 4 hours and I'm spinning LPs with my new ZP3 with Jupiter caps...I'm almost speechless...right outa the box....Heaven. My biggest complaint about my Zu Audio Souls was lack of Bass.  Well, that must have been just with the Taboo MK III because I have plenty of bass with the Torii.  I've got all the controls/tweaks at neutral or off except for the "Reconstructive feedback" which seems to do something I like although I can't really describe it...just more Pop?  Anyway this is the LP I'm listening to....Mark.

PS...this sample is from the box set containing the early Standard Trio sessions...it is the last cut on Vol. 1...enjoy.

Ok, I just moved my base of operations for the day to my Listening Cave...this first up, a 1978 double LP reissue of Ella singing Gershwin tunes with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra recorded in 1959.  On CD there is a wonderful 4 CD remastered box...highly recommended.  Mark.

I've got a few hundred more CDs to rip, and I need to get to the Post Office to pickup a package that has my Trip Lite Hospital Grade Isolator - I've not been able to listen to anything for days now and it's driving me nuts!

I'm looking forward to going through some of your links and tracking now some "new music".

Stone,  I'm not sure anyone would be interested in my live entertainment.  Mainly Classical and Pops with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Dallas Wind Symphony. Five or six theater series...including two with just Musicals. In between several single concerts...mainly Jazz...during the year.  My only requirements are...these seem to grow in number as I get older...indoors, soft reserved seats, finished by 10 pm or 11pm at the very latest.

Now for the next LP I just finished.  Lon, I know you have this one. It's like a Cool breeze in the Hot Texas Sun. I'll go see if I can find samples for the rest.  Mark.

Not much time to listen tonight - working late...again.

I need more Michael Hedges CDs - I think Steve has one I don't have that sounded really good.

Got the Trip Lite Isolation Transformer...not sure how I feel about it yet.

LR, I am familiar with Hedges.  During a very brief New Age phase in the eighties, I bought a couple of his albums.  He definitely was talented.

This album....Chet's Choice...is one of my favorite from Chet Baker...enjoy.  Mark.

Very nice Mark, one for the future. I`ve been wanting to find a good pianist to indulge/treat the Decwares ....and to be honest never knew where to look.

Ordered 11 albums today with one jazz lp.. M. Davis - M. Davis. Billy Cobhams on it so am looking forward.

Yes tasteful piano and that laid back jazz rythym. tx

Marky, yes Bill Evans is one of my favorites another is Keith Jarrett, especially in his "Standards Trio".  I just finished listening to the first side of this solo LP from 1972...might be his first for the ECM label. I'll add more samples when i listen to side two later.  Mark.

Again, not much time for me to listen tonight - too much to do!

Getting this one in though as I need something to help me decompress.
I like this mellow alternative electronica stuff. I need to find more like it!

I've been digging around in my LPs circa High School and college....I found this one...very nice Steely Dan.  I love their name, a subversive anti-establishment  message, no doubt.  Google it.  Anyway here's a couple samples for those not already familiar with this.  Mark.

I can remember listening to Jean Luc Ponty in an altered state on more than one occasion in College.  I recently sent a link of Ponty's music to a High School buddy.  He emailed back that just listening made him High...hehe.  Anyway, the first several albums Ponty did for Atlantic were my favorites...here's one I'm listening to with samples.  Mark.  PS...if you go to spotify and do a search all his Atlantic output is there...the first/earliest four are my favorites.

New Monk coming out soon.

CD and DVD combo of what has been in collectors' circles for a while. Should be great to have a cleaned up official version.

So Lon have you pre-ordered. If so what formats.  The CD plus DVD is the same price as the CD alone....what's up with that?  On you tube there are some clips from the 1969 tour....the drummer looks like a muppet.

Listened to the first Concert of two on this three LP set of Solo Keith Jarrett... he never ceases to amaze me.  Mark.

I pre-ordered the CD/DVD. I have the material on a VHS tape I got from a jazz drummer in a trade, and transferred it to DVD-R. Worth getting.

Signing out for another while. Enjoy the music!

Last night I dug deep into the past.  This LP was purchased when I was a Freshman in High School, forty years ago.  It was delightful through the ZP3 and Torii.  Mark.  PS...now if I could find my copy of "Talking Book".

Mark, I have loved this lp since it was released too, and my lp copy shows it, it's very worn. I'll have to get a new one soon.

The new gold cd from Audio Fidelity is AWESOME, recommended for anyone who likes this album.

Right now I'm listening to a late symphony from Haydn. My Dad and I are trying to get into this and ignore my Mom's foul mood and paranoia brought on by constant messages she is receiving via the walls and houses across the street due to her dementia. Sigh. It's been really rough these last weeks.

Just finishing this LP.  I liked 70's Tangerine Dream...very trippy sonic landscapes.  I think it was movie soundtracks through which I discovered them.  During side one of this album you will recognize parts that were used for the train sequence in "Risky Business".  This is the title track..."Force Majeure"  Mark.

Just finishing this LP.  This was recorded in 1966 when Laura Nyro was 19 years old and released on Verve's Folkways label. I have the Columbia reissue from 1973 re-titled "First Songs".  No matter what the title or order of the songs, this is amazing.  I love every bit of Laura...there's too little.  Mark.

Earlier this morning I listened to this LP.  I don't recommend it though I found it enjoyable. Jim Hall and Chet Baker played well. Electric keyboard and Electric bass where I'd prefer acoustic...many of the CTI recordings of the 70's and 80's were often more "electric" than I liked.  Mark.

LP spinning now...it's a very good collaboration of Richie Cole and Art Pepper recorded in February of 1982.  Art would die in June.  This was released later in 1982. No samples on you tube or spotify.  Mark.

The next LP...a nice Ltd Edition direct to disc.  Very quiet and well recorded. Mark.  PS... No samples found. It is on spotify though.

I was just thinking about getting some ZZ Top from HD Tracks. That's one of my favorite albums as well!

@Lonely Raven

'Blue Jeans Blues' is one of my fav's from this record ... of course ~ I still like Tush (in more ways than one Grin) even though it's been over exposed through so much airplay.

A friend ripped my ZZ Top vinyl collection to HD FLAC ... he did such a good job that its hard to tell the difference from the wax and I don't know if I could tell the difference from vinyl and the FLAC tracks in a blind test.  IMO I think vinyl ripped is getting very close to vinyl itself.  I still would give vinyl the edge for staying all analog, but scary close.
