Lon, after our discussion of the Verve Select sets, I ordered the four volumes of Ella's "Twelve Nights in Hollywood" and her 2 CD set, "Ella in Japan: 'S Wonderful" from an ebay seller with better pricing than Amazon. I sampled some of the tracks from these on Spotify...they'll be great.

I forget just how amazing this album is when i don't listen to it in a long time.

Just great.

And today spinning it is showing me both that the new pair of HR-1s is really coming into its own and also how there is a different signature to the sound than my earlier pair, one that really complements the signature of the Jupiter caps in the amp and preamp. Spunding pretty glorious.

Lon, thanks for the link. Bob had told me I'd be able to see my order on the build sheet but I'd never been able to find one for speakers. I'm familiar with that for Amps at the bottom of the contact sheet but even today I still couldn't find the speaker build sheet...I looked everywhere.

Anyway, thanks again. Now I'll be able to watch the progress of my HR-1s...hopefully no more than twice a day...hehe. Mark.

Lon, speaking of Mono...I'm listening to this one from the Davis Mono Box.

I'm really enjoying these Miles albums in Mono. So much so that i was easily able to resist Mike's 200gm vinyl copy of KOB on Classic. Well, if it had stuck around another couple days, I may have given in to temptation. Luckily Dan saved me!

On the Emarcy/Mercury Sarah Vaughn Box...it's fantastic. I wish they would release the 60's and 70's (Emarcy & Mainstream) Jazz stuff like they did the 54' to 58' Jazz recordings...Live and Studio. I know I have some or all the Mercury Box sets but can't remember if I listened to them. The problem is, there are a lot of Pop/ Easy Listening stuff I'd rather skip. Mark.

Continuing with Monk...from the Complete Columbia Studio Quartet Albums Box...some 67'/68' Monk. I have this on vinyl somewhere. I always loved the cover. Mark.

PS...in reading the Booklet with this I found that a Box of Monk's Live Columbia work is planned for the future...love Monk. I have to find my Riverside, Blue Note, Prestige and Black Lion Box sets and go nuts with Monk.

Lon you`re right...mono. I just thought it was all exceptionally clean.
Do they just play the mono back and record with two mikes = stereo ?
(basically) No theres more to it of course Hendrix guitar is stage left and changes. Cant think of anymore Hendrix live `in the studio` albums.

Stero guitars always puzzled me. I liked to have 2 cabs spread apart. Sounded 10 times better.

PS...Lon, do you have this? What's it like if yes?

It collects all the 1975 Denmark recordings previously out on Storyville. I like Konitz a lot, but I love Warne Marsh, so this box is a favorite of mine.

John Coltrane, Crescent. Using this album as a yardstick to see how the new speakers are doing. I know this album from LP, tape and cd days, very well, and I LOVE to listen to it.

What playing this cd showed me yesterday was that it was time for a new set of output tubes. Got better than eight months out of them, during which I more often than not ran the amp for days on end between turnoffs.

Today with a new set installed it sounds great. The HR-1s are really dishing out the great sound. I do have a buzz and rattle coming from one of the speakers however for the lowest notes of Garrison's bass playing. I ran into it as well on another cd. I thought perhaps it was a tube distortion but no. Keeping an ear on it.

The version of this album in my collection is a Japanese K2 reissue. I probably listen to this one the most often of all my cd versions.
