I am abusing my movie system towards some type of gritty feeling. I am "home alone" and blasting the hell out of "X-Nem" saga. I want my floor to lift and shake, while I am sitting on it.

Probably going for "Master and Commander," next. Not really sure why I need to feel so much right now. I need at least three senses responding to feel alive again.

That's interesting. I've only New Rays and Valleys so far. I really like the sound on Valleys---not too loud, dynamic, good tonal balance.

Half of it is a great album! The other half is very good.

I do find this the "Mike Jeffry approved we got millions of white kids to buy this and so we're going to keep on doing the same thing" Jimi material, and that I really prefer the later Jimi material. Noel Redding is really great here, but when Billy Cox came in with his rich and agile sound, and Jimi and he worked out all those incredible patterns, and the funkiness creeps in. . . now that's the Jimi I always loved more.

New Rays really doesn't so far to me sound different than the '97 version so I think it's the same mastering. I've always liked these but they are a bit too compressed and dynamics suffer just a tad(?)

I just got this in today. Not as bluesy as I'd like but it is growing on me. I'm on my first listen and it has some nice textures.

I just read the liner notes and apparently B. B. King plays on one of the tracks. Very nice so far. There are a couple of tracks that sound like B. B. and it isn't B. B.

The CD improved after the 3rd listen.

A younger friend who is one of the few jazz pals I have in town got me started on those two bands. I'm a big fan of the work that Steve Wilson has been doing. His solo album "Insurgentes" is my favorite of all the Porcupine Tree, No Man, etc. stuff he does. I think Wilson is a sort of a genius.

Opeth I got interested in through the Wilson connection too, he produced several albums for them, and they learned a lot from hm and their albums after that are influenced by Wilson's art. Wilson brought some progressive rock practices and sounds into Opeth, and he took away death metal elements from Opeth into his own work with Porcupine Tree.

It's interesting music to me that sounds like an outgrowth from the bands that I was into when I was younger and into rock far more heavily.

I would have done some of the preduction differently, but the performances are quite satisfying indeed.
