Same Box,  CD #6.  You haven't lived until you hear one of Art's versions of "Over The Rainbow"...the live version I'm listening to now is heavenly.  Mark.

PS...the 7308's have gone back into the Monos.  I was getting some distortion with the RCA Living Stereo CD.  It didn't go away with the tube change...must have been the recording.  It isn't present with the Galaxy Art Pepper CDs.  I think I like the 7308's better...no surprise!  They seem more refined and clear. And overall just more musical and pleasing to me....that's what counts!

I'm starting a 4 hour Vinyl listening session in the Listening Cave with a little Velvet Fog...Sounds wonderful.  I have no urge to tube roll today.  The ZP3 will sport a Phillips Mini Watt 12AU7 and two GE Black Plate Triple Mica 5751s. Mark.

Now this LP played a bit too loud.  I love Steely Dan...that would be the Band!  Mark.

Wow Lon, I didn't think you were a fan. Cool

I'm heading to Amoeba Records (the world's largest independent record store) in Los Angeles in a couple of weeks and this is on my list of albums to pick up.

It's more as if I WAS a fan, I was in the 'seventies. Saw them several times. Like most rock music I sort of stopped listening for a long time. I haven't liked  most of the cds I've heard, I have the box set with the lp facsimile covers but the sound is not great imo. So I haven't listened a lot. I like these new remasters much more.

This vintage Mel...and Art Pepper's in the band.  A nice 24 bit Japanese remaster CD...

PS...the treble hotness that initially was present with the Omegas seems to have completely disappeared.  Just to make sure I'm going to play Miles Davis' "Milestones" next...some very Hot cymbals on that recording.

Well,  as I remembered...lots of cymbals but the Omega's presentation isn't Hot or Edgy...very listenable...nice.  These Omega Alinco 7 XRS speakers have developed into a very fine speaker.  Better than the Zu "Souls"?  I don't know.  I will run an a/b comparison this weekend. Both are excellent and for the foreseeable future, going nowhere!  Mark.

I remember hearing this in the mid to late 70's.  I can't remember if I'd already discovered Jaco before this...loved the trio album with Pat Metheny about the same time. At that time the sound of that fretless electric bass was utterly unique.

Today I received a lot of goodies in the mail,  two Joni Mitchell, 180 gm LPs from Pop Market, two 50s RCA Black Plate Triple Mica 5751s that are going into the ZP3 tonight also picked up one Sylvania Gold Brand Black Plate Triple Mica 5751 for a good price...I need to find another to use them in the ZP3.  The Sylvania was Joe of "Joe's tube lore", favorite 5751/12AX7 tube type.

I also picked up three good  50's RCA 5U4Gs...two will go into the Monos tomorrow morning.

And last but not least I got a pair of NOS Amperex 7308's from a friend here.  I think I'll put them in the Torii and move the used pair from there into the Monos. Then one from the Monos will go into the CSP3 for a trial at some point.

This CD now...

Spinning in the Listening Cave.  The first LP is one of the 180 gm Joni Mitchell albums that arrived today.  I'm running the 50's RCA Black Plate Triple Mica 5751s with the Phillips Miniwatt 12AU7 already in the ZP3.  Amazing sound.  Mark.

Next LP...

PS...this LP wasn't having the low end that I remembered so I pulled the p. miniwatt and put in the RCA Triple Mica Black Plate 5814A in the 12AU7 spot of the ZP3.  More bass and a little less top end...warmer sound is the result...I like it.

JD,  I've been running Amperex 7308s in my Torii MK IV for all but the first week or two.  Then I bought another used pair for the ZSM Monoblocks. Now I have a NOS matched pair that arrived today and a NOS single coming.  I'm going to try them in my CSP3 and Taboo MK III too. You're right...I like them. But now I'm going to try some different input/signal tubes, especially in the CSP3...just for kicks.  Mark.

This LP now...then to bed...

I think the RCA 5751s need some break in.  So far I don't like them better than the GE 5751s.  I'll give them more time.
