Thanks Dave. What recording are you referencing? The T-Bone? Oh I have had it a long time. I like it, I just happen to like the earlier Black & White recordings a lot more.

Not typical for me, but I ran across a Benny Goodman At Carnegie Hall, by Columbia CD and it is great.

I have become amazed after reading the liner notes and doing a bit of research. For a recording that was made in the late 1930s, I am beside myself.

Listening to the Grass is Greener again, this time having swapped my oldest PS Audio PerfectWave DAC Mk II for one that I sent back to upgrade to the new DirectStream DAC which just arrived back.

Not a subtle difference. This is going to need a lot of burn in, but interesting sound. I'll probably love it soon.

Well, I'll say this: it has a very similar sound to the Mk II but makes the Mk II seem a bit "compressed" -- which is not always a bad thing. In a way it is similar to the differences between EL34 and KT66 output tubes in my Torii Mk III. There's a bit more of an open sound, which makes one seem to hear a bit further into the soundstage, a bit more depth.

The "compressed" feel of the Mk II shows up in a very appealing bass signature; the DS has a hair quicker, just a hair thinner presentation.

At this very moment I'd say "well, the difference really isn't three grand worth. And I think in six months I might say the same thing. Three grand! But I spent it, and I won't be surprised if in six months I wouldn't ever want to go back. It's going to season well, I feel it, and that is the experience I have with the PWD Mk I and II. Already with just a few hours of use a raggedy treble and phasey sound has cleaned up. I can't wait to hear what this sounds like in a few weeks.

Right now, I'm listening to some of my old band rehearsal tapes transferred to CDR.

Jon, yeah, I probably would. But. . . I have such a backlog right now, I could spend all my free time just listening for a month and not get caught up, so . . . I'm not looking for new artists right now.

Wasn't planning on checking out that one. I have heard a bit of them though.

I've less interest in rock music than other genres these days. Still exploring with more interest jazz, classical and Brazilian music.

One of the final quartets. Fascinating music that keeps showing aspects to me.

It is a strange day indeed that you and I are playing the same album.

Got my DS working again tonight - randomly clicked on this file to test the sound (just to make sure I hear *anything*) - and it sounds friggen amazing. I can't shut this album off. Since it's showing 96k, it must be a Vinyl Rip a friend gave me to try out and I never got around to...but it's so quiet (no snaps or pops) that I'm not sure where it came from.

I wish all the Queen albums sounded this good. Too many of the digital and CD copies I have just sound barely tolerable.

I haven't posted what I've been listening to for quite a while....I checked, July 4th was the last.  I can't explain why this has occurred but felt like sharing my ebay purchase this morning.  I've been wanting this OOP Mosaic box for a long time, in either CD or LP.  So when a LP box showed up I decided not to wait.  I've waited in the past and someone else moved faster.  The box is a little rough but the lps are said to be mint minus.

Also let me recommend the Music Matters Blue Note 180gm 33 1/3 reissues...they have all been excellent and I plan to buy them all as they are issued.  Also I've bought quite a few of the Analogue Productions 200 gm 33 1/3 reissues of prestige LPs...again all very nice. And lastly, the MFSL early Columbia Miles Davis 180 gm 33 1/3 reissues have all been wonderful.  I'll try to post more often.  Mark.
