One of my favorites…anytime Emmylou Harris is willing to sing along with you, you know you're doing something right…

That said, this might be the only album of his that I truly enjoy.  It is a classic IMHO.

This was the only Blu-Spec discs I got to compare vs. my standard Redbook version.  At first, I was disappointed.  The first track didn't sound better than the standard disc.   But, I should have listened to the rest of the disc for comparison, because it sounded fantastic.  I thought maybe it was a joke, that Blue Rondo A La Turk, one of the most played audiophile tracks to audition systems, didn't sound as good as the rest of the album.  It almost sounds like a different master was used for that one track.  I'm not even sure it makes sense, but that's what I hear.

I often use the drum solo 'Take Five' to demo how fast and snappy the MG944's are.  Sounds best with some extra gain to the ZMA and cranked.  You can see the meters jumping, but it's just the extra transient power the ZMA is capable of.  Maybe 100 watt peaks?

LCD Soundsystem "The Long Goodbye"

Excellent party disc...serious grooves and funkiness...James Murphy leads an "ordinary" life outside the band (if you had the patience to watch the boring documentary), but creates fantastic music.  The HD download sounds great...for now it's either HD download or vinyl, no Redbook.

This has been a difficult listen for me in the past, the mastering is a bit thin and harsh on some playback combinatons. Today, with the DirectStream and some judicious adjustment of treble and bass controls I'm enjoying it as never before.

(I generally listen to these amazing sessions on lp or on the Mosaic All Star set--the latter has excellent sound, but omits the introductions which are a necessary thing imo.)

It's been a while since I've listened to a Q-Sound recorded disc. I'm not quite setup properly for this now, but thought I'd give it a spin.

Luckily Dad likes this one so I can continue my Armstrong fix (I've been playing him on and off since his/our birthday). There is noone like him. Noone. He's the grand daddy-0.

The 2013 Japanese Blue Note cd, not the crappy One Way cd from years back.

This sounds amazing on the DirectStream!

Listening to an original 1961 Mono Vinyl of "Coltrane Jazz" on Atlantic via ebay auction.  Plays VG++...I'm very pleased with it...sounds great.  Mark.

Destroyer: Kaputt

Great band.  Great album.  Chill indie rock w/jazz elements, etc.  If you haven't heard this you are in for a treat.  Soundstage is huge.

Got a few hours off this morning thanks to my lovely sister-in-law Janell and put this on.

Ed Motta is one of my favortie singer/writer/performers. This is his latest, not his greatest, but so much fun.

If I had a chance to produce any current artist (hey, stranger things have happened) I'd love to produce an album for Ed, I think there's a huge album in him that someone needs to get out and into the American market.

I like Portishead, and that low-fi trip-hop type music. I'll have to check this out...though, the cover looks very familiar, so I have a feeling I might already have it somewhere. LOL

These 24 bit remasters from Warner Japan just sound stunning on the DS.

LR…what did you think about the new Spoon album?

Mark…I have been picking up additional Art Pepper albums b/c of your posts, so thanks!  I have really been enjoying "Smack Up" and the Village Vanguard series.  Will likely dive deeper at some point.

Cheers,
David

David,  those recordings are from 1960 and 1977 respectively.  I have the 9 CD box of the Vanguard recordings as well as all but "More for Les" on Vinyl.  As good as they are his recordings from 1979 until his death the summer of 1982 are even better. I especially like his Live recordings.  I have given you three sets of live recordings below, for when you want to explore more Art Pepper.  The Ronnie Scott recordings are available on a 4 CD set put out by his widow on Widow's taste records but if you want vinyl Mole records put out two LPs that are easy to find on ebay.  The other recordings from concerts in Japan or at the "Maiden Voyage" in LA are all on the Galaxy label.  I highly recommend all of the below on vinyl or CD.  Mark.
