So true Lon, even though I don't have the digital setup most of you guys have nothing beats vinyl imho.  I've recently been sending my ZP3 through my CSP2+ again because the fine tuning of the volume means a lot to me.  I often found that it was hard to find the just the right spot going direct into my TORII III.

happy listening

Even though I don't currently have my turntable set up, I have been continuing to buy vinyl (mostly for my son, who is too young to appreciate the collection I am putting together for him).  That said, I think it may be time to dive back in myself.  I know how great vinyl can sound.  It is definitely more work, but there is also great reward.

On the digital front...Lon...I have really been enjoying the new MoFi American Beauty release.  I also picked up Workingman's Dead and I think AB sounds superior.  It's so enjoyable to listen to...

They were remastered by two different engineers. . . . I like the sound of both, I've always liked the music on Workingman's Dead a bit better so that may be why I like this new SACD so much.

Great stuff.

No music tonight. . .Got Dad out of the house for dinner and now we're watching the Cavaliers. Or he is. Or rather he's sleeping on the couch. I'll put some music on when I get home.

Dave,  I just caught up with new posts on this thread.  Those XRCD Blue Notes are wonderful.  I can't believe you're not spinning vinyl but I know what you mean about "diving" back into Vinyl.  I was there about the summer of 2013 when I started my journey back into Hi-Fi after about a 15 year absence.  I started slow with a Taboo MK III and Audeze Headphones paired with an old CD player then with my old Pioneer TT and thousands of LPs and CDs purchased in the past...most in boxes.

Well the addiction took hold before long with new everything....actually several of everything, equipment-wise.  At first I said I'd never buy audiophile vinyl...that quickly fell by the wayside. Up until last night I had resisted buying the 45 RPM Vinyl...what get up to flip the vinyl twice as much?!  But when Elusive disc had a bunch of Music Matters Blue Note 45 RPM Vinyl at 15% off paired with a Thanksgiving sale of 15% off all purchases...I couldn't resist.  The usual rationalization that I was "saving" money kicked in and after all I was paying $35 for many of them...the same as the dozen 33 RPM Music Matters  Blue Note titles I'd already bought.

I'd been adding and subtracting LPs for days in my cart at Elusive Disc but finally last night was the end of the Thanksgiving sale.  It was a half hour past my bedtime and I was really tired...a decision had to be made...go to bed or hit the Buy button.  Well, you probably know by now what I did.  Listed below is my order.  I did resist buying Rock/Pop titles...for now.

So, Dave, be careful.  Once you start again, it's like Heroin...very hard to stop.  Just a warning from a fellow traveler down the Music Highway.  Mark.

Turned off the sound on CNBC and fired up the Zen Signature Mono Blocks in the den.  I also switched from the Zu Audio "Souls" to the Omega Alinco 7XRS speakers.  Listening to a Japanese CD issued in 1993...getting ready for the boat load of Music Matters Blue Notes soon to arrive.  This is one of the 45 RPM albums I bought.  Mark.

Next,  another album coming in 45 RPM format.  This is an XRCD 24 issued in 2013, originally recorded in 1962.  Mark.

Next up, a CD reissue from 1994 recorded in 1964.  I chose not to get this one on 45 RPM vinyl although it was available. I just didn't think I'd play it enough.  Mark.

I love that session. We're all different, I would play this more than the Dexter, and certainly more than the Hubbard.

Right now, I'm playing around with footers and have been using the Blu-Spec 2 cd as I've become very familiar wth its sound.

First listen to this session.  Enjoying it very much so far and it sounds fantastic (it's the Hybrid SACD, and I am listening to the CD layer).

Horowitz continues to delight me. Such power, but such control. Dynamics in both performance and recordings are excellent.

Still one of my favorites after many years...I still have the original LP bought 35+ years ago. So glad I took care of my vinyl.

I finally picked this up b/c it was 30%+ discounted vs. when I added it to my Amazon wish list.

First off, the sound quality on this version is the best I have heard on digital.  Much better than any of the previous recordings I have picked up.  What an awesome surprise.  I truly love this music and to have the entire set, along with the improved SQ, is awesome.  I am very happy to be listening to this while enjoying my coffee this Sunday morning.

The second to the last Teagarden recording, with one exception all Willard Robinson songs. The melancholy mood is perfect for Tea. I'm a big big Teagarden fan, sometimes I don't play his music for months and then I'm just floored when I do.

Hey Lon,  yesterday my huge box of goodies came from Elusive Disc.  I had the Fed Ex guy put it down in my living room.  This morning I picked it up...ouch my aching back...over 60 pounds.  I put it down right then and opened and unloaded it there.  I never knew 39 albums...37 of them double 45 RPM... could be so heavy.  Now that they are all on a shelf, the listening begins tonight.

In regards to the Andrew Hill vs Hubbard and Dexter choices...I have a lot of Hill CDs but I hadn't listened to them for over a decade and so when I was trying to thin out my order to something reasonable, it was one of the casualties.  Now that I think of it, who in their right mind would think I ended up with a reasonable order?  Certainly not me at just under $1400,  I may have lost my mind!  So it goes... Mark.

Having just moved my vinyl collection from one room to another (two bookcases worth at least) I can feel your pain! Heavy stuff, and then you went and got "heavy vinyl"!

Yes, we have to make choices. I've decided unless it is EARLY jazz (pre-tape) I'm buying vinyl that I don't have on cd, I'm not duplicating. I love the early jazz and I'm finding that even though I might have it on cd, it generally sounds significantly better on vinyl, so I'm buying Armstrong, Bix, Duke, Pres, etc. when I see it cheaply on vinyl and I'm in a vinyl buying mood.

Lots of good stuff to listen to there! I know you'll have a lot of fun. I've held off buying audiophile vinyl so far and I'm proud of my restraint. Hopefully that resolve will last.

Lon,  that Jarrett Trio album looks intriguing.  Since this was from this trio formed in 1966 and recorded in 1972, I'm sure it isn't like the Standard Trio albums I so love. I have added it to my wish list.  I've been listening to more of Jarrett's older stuff...solo, American Group and European Group from the 70's.  Great stuff.  How do you like this one?

Yesterday I finally listened to a couple 45 RPM albums.  The Miles was from MFSL and the Silver from Music Matters....WOW.  My suggestion, Lon, is that you never listen to any 45 RPM audiophile LPs or the 33 RPM Music Matters Blue Notes.  Knowing you, once you had a taste, you wouldn't be able to control yourself.  My only regret is that I didn't buy more when I could get them for 30% off...the MSFL was only 15% off.  For tonight I've already picked a Stanley  Turrentine Blue Note to start the listening session.  Mark.

Mark, it's okay. It has Jarrett on flute and soprano sax on about half the material. I'd have preferred he stayed on piano but it's not the worst flute and sax playing ever recorded by Jarrett.

Right now, Horowitz on Television.

Lon, not a raving endorsement.  There is so much great Jarrett out there, I think I'll pass unless I get a chance to preview it.

I'm with you on Jarrett sticking to acoustic piano only but back then he did experiment quite a bit.  Now he sticks to the piano only as far as I know.  Now if we could get him not to "sing" while he plays.

I think you should pick one Music Matters Blue Note to try...you don't know what you're missing.  Maybe you'd like to keep it that way...hehehe  Mark.

I do want to keep it that way, I just can't afford to add these audiophile vinyls to my collecting and listening lists. I've been operating in the red these last few years; my life in Ohio is both much more frustrating and much more expensive than my life in Texas was. And I'm now driving a car from far West of Cleveland to far East of Cleveland several times a week and thirty to forty dollars in gas a week have been added to the mix. So I have to cut back, not add on to vinyl. I still listen to nine or ten times more digital than analog, and just don't have enough time even if I did have more money.

Not only that, I've bought those Blue Note sessions so many times, enough is enough!

You can skip the Jarrett and not miss much. I only have it because it was a gift.

Listening to LP #1 of this 4 LP set of Live Allman Brothers 1971 at Fillmore East...sounds great.  They're 200 gm Vinyl...I don't get the point of 200 vs 180...marketing?  The other two were 45 RPM Music Matters albums from earlier tonight. Mark.

Set just arrived. Disc 2 playing. Sound is very interesting. Much clearer than other releases and as a result sonic imperfections more ruthlessly revealed. But the music really swings.
