Well JD, you've got me listening to Carmina Burana...the whole thing done by UC Davis Symphony on you tube. This music ranks right up there with Beethoven's 9th for me. You must, Must, MUST, hear it live at least once in your life. No recording played on equipment made by mere mortals could capture this Music fully. I remember the first time I heard the whole thing played by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and two Choirs...OMG. I have since heard it again. I wasn't able to find Previn's to stream...wait, I just found it on Spotify!!...Mark.

OK, now that I've settled in with another cup of coffee...earbuds in place with the London Symphony and Chorus doing Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, I can say what I originally wanted to.

Yesterday I only played one album in the Listening Cave but it was a nice one. This was the first Music Matters LP with a noticeable defect, a slight warp on LP #1 that didn't affect play. Mark.

Well, I've paused Spotify because I just Found that VH 1 is playing the film "Risky Business". I love this film and the Soundtrack is wonderful...especially the Tangerine Dream. Mark.

Lon, I normally drink Dark Roast Community Club coffee Black but my Mom likes their Hazelnut so I ended up with a bag of it.

When Coltrane is done I plan on moving to the Listening Cave for an extended listening session. An ebay and Music Direct shipment came Tuesday. My 10 LP order from Music Matters came yesterday but I wasn't home to sign for it, so I'll get it Friday. This double LP will start things off...it has unedited cuts from the albums "ah um" and "Mingus Dynasty". Mark.

Next, LP #2 of the Mingus set then a reissue of Miles' "ESP" from the IMPEX label...

PS...this is a great remastering job by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. I enjoy listening to my CD Box set of this music but this vinyl takes it to a new level...fantastic. I should add that the original album was recorded at the LA studio with an unknown vs at the Columbia studio in NY with Teo. So the original recording wasn't as good as those out of NY but this reissue is an improvement. Overall, the Music's great and the sound quality is probably the best it will ever be...which is still pretty good.

The review that went with the Picture...
Originally recorded at the legendary Blackhawk club in San Francisco on April 21 and 22, 1961, this two-record set captures Miles Davis at an interesting crossroads. Transitioning from the band that produced Sketches of Spain, Davis pairs here with players that would be featured on his following studio album, Someday My Prince Will Come, released in the fall of 1961.
Davis once said he could assemble the ultimate rock n’ roll band, and this effort definitely rocks. The performances are spectacular—and the recording quality equally worthy. The Blackhawk was known for great sound, and the Impex pressing does not disappoint. Via a wide stereo image, Davis’ quintet spreads across the room in lifelike fashion. Kevin Gray takes charge of mastering duties, and if you’ve been subscribing to Music Matters’ jazz series, you know Gray’s track record. LP surfaces are unblemished and perfectly quiet. There’s no hint of groove distortion, even in the loudest passages. The natural timbre may fool you into thinking you are sitting at the Blackhawk, glass of whiskey in hand.
Impex does everything right, from the glossy jacket to the period record label and killer sound. Let’s hope the imprint produces more Columbia titles in this fashion. If you only have the CDs of this masterwork, you owe it to yourself to hear the music as it should be experienced.
