Last night I listened to three more 45 RPM Blue Note reissues from Music Matters. The first was Horace Silver's "Song For My Father". Overall it was excellent. Occasionally I thought I heard a touch of distortion but the last cut, "Lonely Woman", had quite a bit. So I changed out my Raytheon 12AX7's for a pair of Sylvania Gold Brand Tiple Mica Black Plate 5751's, thinking the Raytheons might not be as Phono-stage friendly as the 5751s. Well, the distortion was still there in the same places. This morning I did a google search and found it is indeed the recording. A quote... "The record is generally marked by excellent sonics throughout, except for the final cut, Lonely Woman, which shows the limitation of the recording, with Silver's piano having a tendency to sound a bit "boxy" or distorted at times." http://myvinylreview.blogspot.com/2010/08/horace-silver-quintet-song-for-my.html...

The other albums I listened to are below...all excellent. The Miles is a MSFL 45 RPM. Mark.

Next year they will be releasing 20 albums in their 33 RPM Blue Note series for 2015. I already have three of them on 45 RPM vinyl but I'll probably get them anyway. I just hope the price stays at $35 each.

Lon...I know I am preaching to the choir here, but not only is the music great, but this cd sounds fantastic too! The perfect combo!

Usually, when I get on Cassandra Wilson kick I go full on...last night was "Full Moon Daughter", now it's "Another Country". Later this evening will probably be "Blue Light Til Dawn" and "Traveling Miles". Then I'll see what mood I'm in.
