Bill Evans "How My heart sings"
A side of G.Deads `72 Oregon live x4
Now Eric Dolphys `Iron Man` is getting it`s second spin.

Just put an order in for Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano with Paul Motians trio "Love Deep Down"

You know when this was first released and I eventually picked it up I had no idea it would keep growing and growing on me. Sounds excellent too.

Syd, a question.  You've been buying Bill Evans vinyl.  Has any of it been new Original Jazz Classics reissues? If so how was it's quality?  I'm coming to the conclusion that my Analogue Productions box set of Riverside Bill Evans is never going to come...so I'll buy some originals or reissues of the Riverside material on Vinyl.  I'll also pick up more Milestone twofers.  Just missed an "Interplay Sessions".  I'll get some time in the cave later.  mark.

I was thinking the other night Mark that I have several B. Evans Riverside ojc`s and if I kept going I could collect the box set, originally on 33rpm. I`ll look at my R/sides tonight and remember if they`re good copies. I know " How My Heart Sings" which I played yesterday is one of the best `new` repros I have. No issues at all, not even a few minor quiet ticks. " Sunday at The Vanguard" was good as well. Some are Riverside bought as  nm.
I`d love the 45 rpm box set though, so you did the right thing but man it`s dragging out before they get the machines cutting and stamping. I wonder if you`ve considered phoning them for a first hand update.

ps. I posted that I`d ordered a Bill Frisell album. This why..I found this while cruising the net looking at old horn speakers
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L18gOYNsuGo

Only prob is that it`s only on cd, "Intercontinentals" so I ordered another album.

This is my other ojc Riverside Mark. Again, it`s very clean and Lafaro is v/powerful.

I`ve got Riverside albums on  other labels : "Spring Leaves" which is "portrait In Jazz" and "Explorations" on a Milestone/Carrere label twofer.
"Conception" on Milestone, another 2fer which is "N J Cncptns" and unreleased mat on 2nd disc.
Original Riverside albums are "E D B Evans" and. Just that one.
Other albums on Verve, Milestone, Elektra, Resonance and a  Fantasy.
And "W F Debby" on wax time which should be replaced this year.

Thanks Syd,  I've recently bought OJC reissues and one was noisy the other was real nice...so I wanted to know specifically for the Bill Evans issues.  I've been happy with the milestone twofers as a cheap way to pick up the Riverside albums with good sound. I think I'll pick up that Conception LP you have.

Side four of this LP still on the TT from my last session, then this original Atlantic LP...1960 Mono.  Mark.

LR,
I pulled SF, Rose Mountain off Tidal just now.
I like the energy of their sound a good bit. Always nice to have a change of pace.  :)
Back 20+ years ago there was a band called Mary's Danish that had a similar rock and the vocalist is a dead ringer.
But this one is much, much refined from that old MD stuff.
Glad you posted it.

Been having fun with Kind of Blue lately. As my Redbook playback is rivaling my vinyl these days and my SACD playback is awe inspiring I've been playing Japanese CD, Blu-Spec CD, Dual Disc, SACD and now this K2HD CD of Kind of Blue and enjoying the subtle differences. This one is the best of the Redbooks except maybe the Mono CD. Really nice crisp and detailed sound without being bright and brittle. Found a great used price on this one, and also on the new Ultra HD 32 Bit one which has not yet arrived. Nice to fool around like this with multiple copies now and then, usually teaches me about my system.

Back to this one. I forget how much I admire Roberts' work sometimes. I have seen him play several times. He is the only pianist I have ever seen live whose hands really become a blur--and yet he is articulating clearly each note. Phenomenal skill. And great arranging chops as well.

This LP first...

Lon, I saw Marcus Roberts in 1989 or 1990 in Omaha, Nebraska. It was in a backroom of a Bowling Alley where they had folding chairs setup and a small stage at the front of the room.  My friend and I could hardly believe that Wynton Marsalis and his group would perform in such a place.  As I recall the concert was great.  I've seen Wynton several more times but Roberts had moved on.

I saw him after that, when he became a solo artist, one solo only, and once solo and also accompanied by Ronald Westray on trombone. Just amazing performances.

Right now
The Tchaikovsky Chamber Music Society, "The Seasons" SACD. Excellent sound and performances.

Listening to Jobim and thinking of just ceasing to look on the internet. On two boards I'm always dodging the negativity of a handful of posters and there's little joy in the process. On this site I keep finding myself lusting for more audio goodies and wading through posts about computer audio, room treatments and other things that don't interest me much. It's me mostly, time for another breather. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

I've loved this album since I first heard it. Mixing electronica, rap (in Latin!), and Monk chants all in one. It's fantastic if that floats your boat.

This Gem to start the day...although Louis holds his trumpet on the cover, this is strictly a vocal performance for him.  He sings standards as only he can.  Mark.

PS...I lied..on track 4 he's begun to blow his horn...so Mainly a vocal affair...

Well, I'm in the Cave.  I was supposed to move the HR-1s back in but just haven't been motivated to yet but what I did do was switch the Nanotec cables for a pair of Virtue Audio cables.  I'm just one side in on this LP but they sound good.  i'm beginning to think anything but the Libtecs will do. Anyway,  I'll live with these paired with the Omega Alinco 6XRS speakers for the rest of the month.  It's going to be hard to take the Omegas out of the Cave but I really do need to see if the HR-1s are still top dog...the omegas sure give them a run for the money.

I may be the only one who still likes Chuck Mangione.  I mainly like the material before he became popular in the 80's with such albums as "Feels So Good" and "Main Squeeze"...this is playing now.  I just noticed that Joe LaBarbera is on drums on the album...he was Bill Evans last drummer.  Mark

Next, a 45 RPM reissue...with the busy cymbals of Elvin Jones.  It's hard to say but  I think the Nanotecs did a better job with this LP...

This is a 33 RPM Music Matters Blue Note reissue.  Hank Mobley is one of my favorite sax players...

PS...after a few albums, the Virtue Audio Nirvana speaker cables seem to have smoothed out on the treble...or maybe my brain acclimated...don't know but everything's sounding good.

Jamie XX - In Colour

I am really enjoying this album.  Less vocals vs. the XX, but more interesting electronic sounds.  A few of my buddies used to spin drum & bass back in college, and he brought a few of those sounds into the mix.  I turned the REL up a little higher to feel the bass.  Cheers.
