Dave, I'm not a huge fan of the Dead, enjoying them only occasionally. They have offered many ways to view the concerts...the only free is via XM-Sirius. But there are audio only and video of the CA concert in June on you tube...find one below. My guess is the audio and video of these concerts will quickly make it to you tube and Vinyl and CD version will follow.Mark.

re the "Undercurrent" album Mark. I think theres a track where the treble on Bills joanna sounds rounded off...or I suppose distorted. No warping, a few quiet tics that MFSL say will disappear in time.
I`ll play it again tonight and listen for tape wear. Bill is sparkly most time and his piano sometimes reaches across the speakers.
Heading up for a session right.......now.

The piano is miked differently. Bill effectvely plays bass with light touches and the rest of the piano has a lot bigger presence than usual, the notes are fuller but he cant play as such or he`ll drown the guitar out so he plays with less force. So you get this sound of much presence but played more quiet. He ocasionaly plays harder and there is no distortion.
There is a 3 sec patch where the guitar distorts.
Sometimes it sounds like the piano might be going through a compressor...more of the resulting note and less of the reverb. Again I think they`re trying to stop too much piano swamping the sound.
Great album which I`ll be happy to revisit.

Listening to track 6 especially, Long Distance Runaround, in memory of bassist Chris Squire who passed last week.
YES is my all time favorite band since I "discovered" them on a ATL radio station back in 1970. Had to adjust that FM antenna just right to get anything other than C&W in my little hometown and I thought YES had fallen out of a space ship when I first locked that signal in.... :)

Ugh, hard to listen to anything tonight - the idiots a few houses back must be blowing off a few grand in (illegal in Illinois) fireworks. My pit bull is glued to my hip, and I have to turn the music up a bit louder than I wanted to in order to listen.

I love Independence Day, but I don't ever remember it being this retarded.

On the positive side - I figured I'd just try and drown out the fireworks with Tori Amos' Under the Pink. This album has some female aggression that I just love, and it always sounds good loud. But...and I'm completely floored by this as I've literally listened to this album over a hundred times; with the new DS OS/Firmware update - I just heard something I've never caught before. At 2:33 on the first track "Pretty Good Year" you can hear the booth bark something over the intercom! It's just a brief snipped - but I can't un-hear it now. This technology, and being able to extract even more information from CD's just blows me away.

Core 32, I didn't know Chris Squire had died. I love Yes and Fragile is my favorite. It was the only one i owned when it originally was issued.

I feel in the mood for some of the the Divine one...

PS...I don't know if there are any fans of old films...or Musicals here but this Holiday TCM has been showing some great ones. Yesterday I watched "On the Town", " Annie Get Your Gun" and "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" before I had to leave for the "Dallas Winds'" Fourth of July program which, by the way, was fantastic, even better than their usual high standard. I caught a little bit of "The Music Man" before bed.

Today I've decided to watch " The Band Wagon" and "West Side Story"

I'm a fan. . . there is one poster who is going on and on about how overrated and mediocre Johnson is. I can see that he may get more hype than his meager output allows but he was the real deal in my estimation.

This Speakers Corner reissue next. I saw an original of this at HPB&Rs at a bit higher price than I liked so I went home and listened to it on spotify. I decided I'd buy it but, as you probably guessed, it was gone the next time I was there. Lesson learned...now I buy and if I don't like it for what ever reason, I can return it. Love this album by the way...sounds great. Mark.
